The Amalfi Coast stretches along the southern edge of Italy’s Sorrentine Peninsula. The coastal area is a popular tourist destination, especially for those who love yacht charters. This area is marked with steep cliffs, rugged shorelines, and colorful fishing villages. The town of Amalfi is a great base for exploring the surrounding area. Built on the side of a cliff, the squares and attractions are either up or down numerous flights of stairs. While visiting Amalfi be sure to stop by the beautiful old Cathedral. Right in front of this attraction is the main square where the tourists and locals like to hang out. You will find some interesting shops, with some selling pastries or the Italian gelato and restaurants to try. Many of the restaurants provide outdoor seating so you can enjoy the sea views and the sun while dining on “delizia al limone”, a delicious lemon cake made from the lemons grown locally. From Amalfi, you can catch a bus or ferry that will take you to the other coastal town like Naples, Salerno or Sorrento. When planning your vacation be sure you stay at one of these top Airbnb vacation rentals in Amalfi Coast, Italy.

Just 6km from Salerno, cliffside Vietri sul Mare marks the easternmost point of the Amalfi Coast. Few visitors stay here; most people stop by to shop for ceramics. Vietri is the capital of Campania’s ceramics industry and has been producing glazed majolica pottery since Roman times. Its colorful streets are lined with ceramic murals and shops burst with tiles, tableware, and objets d’art, many hand-painted in shades of sunny lemon yellow. [links]

While many fishing villages of the Amalfi Coast have given over to tourism, Cetara Amalfi Coast remains true to its roots. Home to some of the largest fleets of fishermen in the region, Cetara feels less touched by tourism than other Amalfi Coast towns. Even the town name is derived from the word for fishing nets. Suffice to say, if you want fresh seafood, you must visit Cetara! If you want a taste of “Old World Italy” without the overwhelming crowds of other towns, Cetara is the perfect choice for you. It’s one of the best Amalfi Coast towns for nightlife, as there are dozens of beachfront bars and nightclubs to explore. You’ll also find luxury shopping in Positano, and if a high-end Amalfi Coast villa is what you want, Positano will deliver. Beware, though, Positano is one of the steepest towns along the coast, so be prepared for a lot of hills as you walk around town. It is not the best area for those with mobility challenges.
