The first Pirates of the Caribbean movie introduced an entire crew for the legendary ship The Black Pearl, but how many of Jack’s fellow pirates actually earned another appearance in the series? Directed by Gore Verbinski, the first movie in the franchise was a surprise sleeper hit for Disney and spawned a number of financially successful sequels. The studio had high hopes for the movie, but the relatively recent failure of Renny Harlin’s infamous flop Cutthroat Island meant that swashbuckling action was still a risky investment, and ambitions for the potential franchise were tempered as a result.
Jack’s endlessly loyal (until the fifth film in the series, that is) first mate Gibbs helps him get back the Pearl, acts as his right-hand man, and is the final human crew member to appear in every outing of the franchise. An amiable figure who is a touch superstitious and seriously fond of his hip flask, the well-meaning Gibbs is nonetheless the most outwardly heroic of the ship’s motley crew members (Jack and Barbossa included). That said, even he has his limits. Gibbs appears throughout the series but does not betray Jack until the drastically changed fifth Pirates film that sees him tire of the Captain’s antics. here
Martin Klebba’s Marty went from a background appearance in the first film to a supporting role by the third and reappears in the fifth outing of the series. Marty’s relatively minor screen time does not stop him from being one of the most oft-seen faces from the Black Pearl’s crew, with the actor’s four films outdoing Cotton, Pintel, and Ragetti. However, there is one other crew member who has made it into every movie outing in the franchise so far.
This swash-buckling tale follows the quest of Captain Jack Sparrow, a savvy pirate, and Will Turner, a resourceful blacksmith, as they search for Elizabeth Swann. Elizabeth, the daughter of the governor and the love of Will's life, has been kidnapped by the feared Captain Barbossa. Little do they know, but the fierce and clever Barbossa has been cursed. He, along with his large crew, are under an ancient curse, doomed for eternity to neither live, nor die. That is, unless a blood sacrifice is made.
Sparrow, the skipper of the Black Pearl, currently serves as operational commander of one the nine pirate lords in the Brethren Court, the Pirate Lords of the Seven Seas, and now will command a fleet of Coast Guard cutters around the coastal United States.
“Capt. Jack Sparrow will deliver expert leadership and sound judgement needed to guide our dedicated military service further into this difficult yet remarkable era of our nation,” said Schultz. “He’s a little unconventional, yes. But I’m confident that his knowledge of the sea, ability to talk his way out of a messy situation, and capacity to hold his liquor already makes him a worthy addition to the Coast Guard family.” here
