The unique curved architecture of the ship
In 2020, The World stopped sailing on account of travel restrictions. Now, however, the 150 families with residences on board can return home as a result of its “COVIDSHIELD” program, which has ensured all residents and crew are fully vaccinated and has introduced new health and safety measures on board to support the wellbeing of its inhabitants.
Residents on board The World will then spend the latter part of the year taking in the sights of Bermuda, The Bahamas, the British Virgin Islands, the Leeward Islands, the Dominican Republic, and the Cayman Islands. [links]
The 196 metre superyacht The World, which carries the title of the largest privately-owned residential yacht on earth, will recommence sailing in July 2021, it has been announced.
“It’s been a difficult 16 months for our residents who have been missing their home at sea. They have been incredibly supportive of the operation while the ship was in warm lay-up and especially of our crew, who are like extended family members. We are all anxious for the ship’s return and are enthusiastically preparing to welcome our residents back home this summer," she said.
From the latin ‘to dream’, Somnio has been dubbed within the industry as the first “Yacht Liner” due to its incredible 222m length. Featuring 39 onboard apartments Somnio will be the world’s largest private residence superyacht. Imagine all the luxurious things that money can buy. What if  all these things end up at one place? On a yacht. Yes, 2 helipads, 20 water jets, a pool with large Havana bars surrounding it, a cinema, library, restaurant, private garden, 5,000-square-feet master suite, a private submarine boarding from the bottom of the yacht for a secret escape and a missile-detection system to deflect pirate attacks safely. What’s more, a pool that transforms into a dance floor for crazy parties and a master cabin whose roof gives way to a star studded night. Phew! The world’s largest private yacht created over a number of years to meet the whims of Russian tycoon, Roman Abramovich.
This 557 foot huge mega yacht was under construction since January 2007.
Now almost ready for delivery Eclipse is set on sail from Blohm and Voss shipyard in Hamburg, Germany. It left the port on Friday as the world looked in amazement. Estimated to cost anywhere in between $400 to $800 million, this yacht is a phenomenon in itself. A fantasy that only the very privileged in the world can fulfil. The previous glory of owning the largest private yacht in the world belonged to Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid al-Maktoum of Dubai.
