In the next room, find fake Jack and take away one more heart, then use Jack's compass to find a barrel. Follow the blue dots, then use the character button to hop on top of it. Roll it into a nearby barrel switch, then keep rolling until some bars come off of an elevator. Walk into the elevator, then ride it up to the higher level, where you'll find fake Jack.

Once you regain control, you'll be in control of Jack and Scrum while someone dressed as Jack (along with an awesome Groucho Marx mask) is attacking you. Defeat some enemies, then get in your first hit on fake Jack. Take down the next set of enemies that appears, then break down a door to follow fake Jack into another room. [links]

Head outside through the window where the statue was, then watch a cutscene. Once you regain control, head to the left and climb up a post, then jump up to a climbable wall. Move to the right along the wall and jump onto a green bar, revealing more climbable surface area. Move up to the rope, then jump onto it to slide across to another ledge. Walk to the left and across a round bridge, then switch to Mr Gibbs. Fix the glowing gears, then switch back to Jack and use the action button to stick your sword into the gears to make the bridge move higher. Mr. Gibbs will jump to a higher platform. more

Moments before Ward’s men grappled the ship, his gunners fired six rounds of lethal chain shot. It tore into the rigging and sails, but it also tore into the crew. Two men were shredded to morsels, causing those around them to drop their weapons in panic. [links]

After three hours of intense bombardment, Ward’s men prepared to board. As they did so, the Reniera e Soderina’s captain offered his crew the choice of fighting or surrendering. When they vowed to fight, he handed out small arms and deployed the bulk of his men on the quarterdeck. [links]

The Barbary corsairs were pirates and privateers operating out of the three principal ports in North Africa (Algiers, Tunis and Tripoli, all in the Mediterranean) and the port of Salé, on the Atlantic coast of Morocco.

News of the disaster irreparably damaged Ward’s reputation and he became an object of hatred for many in Tunis, especially those who had lost loved ones in the disaster. Ward found himself in desperate straits and became increasingly reliant on the protection of Uthman Dey. [links]

Many other ships were seized in the early spring of that first year in Tunis. One of the largest was the 300-ton Rubin, heavily laden with pepper, indigo and luxury goods purchased in Alexandria and destined for Venice. Also seized were the Elizabeth, Charity and Pearl, along with the Trojan of London: her English crew “were made slaves for shooting off but one shot in their own defence”. here

Going by Jack's sword fight with Will in the first Pirates movie, you might be tempted to call Jack the superior fighter. Jack wound up disarming his opponent and could have killed Will if he wanted to. Yet as Will himself pointed out, Jack only won the duel by cheating. You'll notice Jack's fights often involve underhanded tactics, and that's because Jack simply is not a very good sword fighter. more

Johnny Depp is known for being an unusual actor who likes to take bizarre roles, and apparently he surprised Disney executives by bringing that style into the first Pirates movie. During the initial stages of the movie, Depp put his own spin on Jack Sparrow that was inspired by Keith Richards since Depp saw pirates as the rock stars of that era. Though it's endeared him to fans in hindsight, during preparation it really took the execs off guard.

Jack was working for Cutler Beckett in the East India Trading Company, and in exchange was given the ship the Wicked Wench. Eventually Beckett ordered Jack to transport slaves on the ship, but Jack set the slaves free instead. In response, Beckett ordered the Wicked Wench burned and Jack nearly died trying to save it.

Johnny Depp has openly acknowledged that he was inspired for his take on Jack Sparrow thanks to Keith Richards, and this led to Keith eventually being cast in the movies as Captain Teague. Even just based on his small amount of time on screen so far, it’s obvious Teague is a legendary pirate; you can see that just from the respect other pirates have for him. here

During the course of the trilogy, Sparrow undergoes physical transformations. In The Curse of the Black Pearl, Sparrow curses himself to battle the undead Barbossa. Like all the actors playing the Black Pearl crew, Depp had to shoot scenes in costume as a reference for the animators, and his shots as a skeleton were shot again without him. Depp reprised the scene again on a motion capture stage. In At World's End, Sparrow hallucinates a version of himself as a member of Davy Jones's crew, adhered to a wall and encrusted with barnacles. Director Gore Verbinski oversaw that the design retained Sparrow's distinctive look and rejected initial designs which portrayed him as over 100 years old. here

In the context of the films, Sparrow is one of the nine pirate lords in the Brethren Court, the Pirate Lords of the Seven Seas. He prefers to negotiate or trick his enemies in most dangerous situations and fight only when necessary. Sparrow is introduced seeking to regain his ship, the Black Pearl, from his mutinous first mate, Hector Barbossa, later attempts to escape his blood debt to the evil Davy Jones while battling the East India Trading Company. The character personality was development more as the films progress.

Jack's pistol remained with him for many years, after it was loaded with a single shot and carried with him to the desert island he was marooned on by Barbossa. Jack escaped, and for the next ten years carried the pistol with him, intent on killing Barbossa with the single bullet he had been left. Thus, Jack could not bring himself to fire his pistol on anyone else; although he drew his pistol on Will Turner in order to end a duel between them, he did not use his shot, and was thus captured by the Royal Navy. Jack ultimately got his revenge on Barbossa, shooting him in the heart moments before Will reversed the curse that protected Barbossa. Jack was then free to load his pistol to capacity and continued to use it years after.
