Then hook it up like this.
ok, so i have to have 2 solenoids? just want to make sure as the original pump only had 1 solenoid.
at this stage, I am not going to be pulling the whole drive off just to replace the switches, so no, I have been using the boat the way it is for the last 5 yrs and just want to get it back out, and this little issue is holding me up.
I am thinking the wiring may have gotten messed up, any ideas on where to find a good wire diagram to go from 2 silenoids to1?
Thanks Don,
The original pump that was in there only had 1 solenoid, maybe that is because there is no 3 button switch at the helm? all it is, is a toggle up and toggle down switch, and no tilt or trim in the handle either. more
Ok, you have a single toggle switch for up and down without a trim limit switch or a gauge is that correct? more

These include the common "R" sterndrive, 888 sterndrive, 898 sterndrive, I and MR as well as others. more
Most customers start by buying a Service Manual.
Manuals are used on a regular basis even by our most experienced Mercruiser Techs. The manuals show all the procedures and they have a list of the special tools required to complete the job if required. It's a great idea to have a manual even if you don't perform the repair yourself because you can get a good idea as to what your tech should be doing. [links]
Almost every pre-alpha part can be ordered from the Alpha One Parts section.
Pay attention to R or MR specification in the Lookup Index. here
