So where should the majority of the weight be placed!? here

So, racing oriented chaps will tell you to keep it in the middle. And cruise oriented chaps may prefer the comfort of keeping things at the ends (you should see the paraphernalia overhanging the ends of many live-aboard boats!). And they'll all be convinced (if they've thought about it) that they're right.

am wondering if this applies to 14 tonnes of Moody 44. my father added a load of anchor cable at some point and said that she sailed much better to windward after adding it. [links]

[ QUOTE ]
Weight wants to keep on going (or maybe it's mass), so when the bow begins to drop, the weight of anchor and chain perched right up the front end wants to keep on dropping, accentuating the pitch

Ultimately knowing the dry and total weight of your boat helps with hauling the boat. As having a vehicle with adequate towing capacity ensures your’s and public safety at road.

The thumb rule for calculating pontoon boat weight on the go; consider a 100 pounds for every foot of your boat length. At last, add the additional weights of fuel ( 6.2 lbs per gallon ), fire extinguisher, anchors and other heavy accessories. [links]

At last, it is better to be sure of your pontoon boat weight than to do a lot of guessing or a last moment google search.

I am interested in getting myself a bass boat for new year. I considered its size. The thought on how much does a bass boat weigh cross my mind.

Most modern pontoons consists of long hollow tubes or pontoons. A pontoon can have two or three of these aluminum tubes in parallel connected together with the help of aluminum cross members. more

The carpet is light, UV protected and mildew resistant; while the fiberglass itself is waterproof and light by design. here

This shows that the trailer is not properly loaded. When you have less than 10% tongue weight, trailer sway (or fishtailing) will most likely occur, especially when the vehicle is traveling fast. It is best to properly distribute your load prior to hitting the road and avoid this side-to-side movement from the get go.

On the other hand, too much tongue weight means that most of your load is on the front end of your trailer and you exceed 15% of your GTW on the trailer tongue. This looks more like a “V” shape kind of like this and is sometimes called “jack knife.” more

Towing a trailer with improper tongue weight ( the static force the trailer tongue exerts on the hitch/tow ball) would feel nearly the same as driving with egg-shaped tires. You have little to no control of your vehicle, let alone the trailer you are towing. It also puts everyone around you at risk, which is why knowing your tongue weight and making sure it is within 10-15% of your gross trailer weight (GTW) is so important.

Too much tongue weight could overload the rear tires of the towing vehicle, pushing the rear end of the vehicle around. When this happens, the vehicle is difficult to control; corners or curves may become more difficult to maneuver and your vehicle may not be as responsive when you try to brake. more

My opinion is that adding weight forward will slow the boat and might even require you to run the props a little lower which would slow it even more.

Jeff, ballast tank idea is cool, but would add weight. (even empty ballast tank and pumps would weigh 10-15 lbs) also this boat accelerates to 100 so much faster then I would think a tank could dump, not to mention danger if fitting came off and sunk the boat  more

My thinking is more weight over the bow would cause more drag, but could be that the weight over the bow would lift tail and let it run faster? What have you found?

I like strokernicks suggestion, but will try 50 lb bag of dogfood in back by battery, then move it into the nose and see results. more
