It is however important to follow glue application instructions precisely. Videos below might show different techniques for glue repairs, but in general idea remain the same – parts to be glued must be first cleaned by Acetone or MEK at least several times, and glue must be applied in thin layers several times, with various intervals between several glue applications. Glue must be tacky at the time when both parts to be glued are joined together. It is important to provide appropriate pressure after glued parts being joined together, and let 24 hours to cure before re-inflating inflatable boat chambers.

Videos from YouTube sources below, show general techniques for repair of various inflatable boats issues. Most PVC inflatable boats are hand glued in a process called “cold welding”. That means that glue used during boat assembly designed for melting of 2 layers of PVC being glued together, instead of creating glue layer in between them. The same way as inflatable boats are glued together at the factory, piece by piece during assembly, any type of damage to inflatable boat can be fixed with PVC glue for inflatable boats repair. Some issues are easier to fix, and some might require extra time.

Cut nice round patches when trying to cover holes. Do not use square patches, as sharp edges may start to peel off over time. If nice appearance is important, consider covering hole with D-ring instead of patch, and installing 2 nd D-ring in symmetrical location, so that it looks like it was suppose to be there. Always cover patch with paint tape in order to avoid glue sticking out all over patch. more

When repairing open seams, first glue as much between seams as you can. It might be impossible to apply Acetone and glue at very edges of seams opening on both sides. Therefore, once glue is cured, either apply round patches over seams edges where glued was impossible to apply, or apply glue along repaired seam, so that to seal edges where glued was not placed between seams. more

The strip of hypalon at the bottom of my boat's transom has been coming undone. When I repaired it last year, I used penetrating epoxy to reinforce the transom in a few areas where it was starting to delaminate and then glued the hypalon back in place with 2 part Bostik.

My next step is to replace the hypalon strip that runs across the joint at the bottom of the transom. I'm going to cut the hypalon strip an inch or so higher than the original section (almost so it touches the yellow sticker in the pic above) and secure it behind the strip of wood that holds the rear floorboard in place. here

I'm tempted to use more G/Flex for this step of the process but I've run out so I think I'll switch to 2-part Bostik (as I have a fresh can). I hope the Bostik glues up well to the G/Flex. I think it will because the G/Flex has a surface like varnished wood and I'm roughing it up with 80 grit to ensure good adhesion.

Be sure to remove all the old glue that you can from all the different surfaces, especially the transom. I used a razor blade to scrape off a lot of the old dirty, gummy crap off the transom and then I used MEK which works good for getting the last residues off. I think you can get it at any hardware store. I know ACE Hardwares around here have it. [links]

Well, the transom collapsed from the weight of the motor. The motor, transom and boat fell over backwards, came right off the trailer and landed, BANG!, on the driveway in a big pile. more

I did discover that you can't paint it until it completely sets. The solvents in the glue don't let the oil based paint dry. So that is a problem I didn't consider. [links]

I know. There's no such thing as a free (lunch) outboard motor.

That looks promising. I may get some and try it on a small area to see how well it works. I think I can get that stuff around here. more
