Beside above, how long does a painted door need to dry? With Glidden® Trim & Door it's normal for a painted surface to remain tacky for a little while. It will dry to the touch in 4-6 hours at 77 degrees. Do not close painted doors for at least 8 hours. For optimal results, a 24-hour dry-time is recommended.

Frost on metal surfaces can cause problems when applying new coatings. In particular, a coating will not adhere to a frosty substrate. Even if the new coating does stick, if frost is not removed before applying a fresh coat of paint the moisture trapped underneath the coating can cause it to fail prematurely.

It is not just the coatings and their curing that are disrupted by extreme cold, the sprayers are also effected by winter. Operatives cannot work in extreme cold for long periods of time and are also not as agile in very low temperatures. This means that projects may take longer than they would in summer months which is another reason why it may best to postpone the refurbishment of external metal. After considering all these possible difficulties, the first thing to establish is whether it is really necessary to recoat the metalwork during colder months or can it wait until the spring? If the work has to be done in winter then the following tips may be helpful and a good onsite spraying company should follow these guidelines. more

• Make sure any moisture is removed from the surface and remember that damp may not be visible in sub-zero temperatures. Frost might have to be scraped off and the surface wiped down, so that moisture isn’t trapped underneath the coating once it has been applied. more

“It’s important to understand the differences between paint types in order to pick which one is best for your home and the specific project you’re tackling,” Joey Corona, senior merchant at The Home Depot, says.

Weigh your sheen options. “Sheens indicate how glossy a paint is in its dry state,” Joey says. “Glossy paints are shinier and reflect more light, but matte paints diffuse the light to make the surface less shiny. Reflective sheens, like satin and semi-gloss, clean easily but show more imperfections on the wall. Non-reflective sheens show fewer imperfections but are not typically as easy to clean. Overall, matte finishes are good for low-traffic areas like bedrooms, while other sheens are better for high-traffic areas like kitchens or bathrooms.” more

Decide how often you plan on painting. “In addition to durability, consider how regularly you’re likely to change the color of the surface,” he adds. “Areas like indoor doors, trims, and moldings most commonly receive a neutral or white paint variation, while walls usually get more color. These colors and finishes change the type of paint you’ll likely need.” more

If the humidity is too high, paint can dry improperly. The industry standard is to paint on a surface whose temperature is more than 5 ºF above the dew point—the temperature at which water droplets begin to condense. more

When planning any outdoor or indoor painting project, temperature matters. Humidity, other weather conditions and surface temperature also factor into the equation.

Clearly, you want to avoid rainy conditions when taking on an exterior painting project. If you’re surprised by rainfall during your project, stop painting immediately; wait until the rain stops and your painting surface is dry. With ben ® Exterior paint, your project will be rain-resistant as long as the paint is applied at least 90 minutes before rainfall. here

If it rains before your paint has thoroughly dried, the paint may form bubbles. Resist the urge to pop these bubbles, and leave the paint alone. Once the rainwater evaporates, the bubbles may subside and your paint job may be no worse for wear. If the bubbles don’t subside in a day or two, they must be scraped off, sanded, cleaned and repainted.
