Re: Remote Tilt/Trim switch not working
1991. The Tilt/Trim switch on the motor works just fine but the switch on the remote does not work. Everything else on the remote works fine. Any ideas?
Re: Remote Tilt/Trim switch not working more
Where did you get the replacement switch? You say it was pretty easy to install? I've got the switch on the side of the shift lever -- I thought about taking it apart and looking at it. I'm generally a lot better at taking things apart than putting them back together though. here
The switches are prone to damage from water intrusion. Water enters the switch and ruins the contacts. The wires tend to soften and/or rot with age and water leaks into the switch through the wires. here
Alpha's and Bravo's have two Trim Senders. [links]
Symptoms
The Trim Position Switch operates the Trim Gauge.
When the Trim Position Switch fails, the gauge usually pegs to "full up". here
When one switch fails, you will end up replacing both switches. This is because the switches are sold in sets of two. Both the Trim Limit and the Trim Sender switches are sold together as a pair.
Go to the trim/tilt pump assy. and make sure the purple wire connector (single wire) and the blue wire connector two blue wires on one side of the connection are not corroded or loose. Pull them apart; they should be clean and tight; reconnect them. Next check the three (RED, BLUE & GREEN) wire connector at the pump assy. The RED wire in the plug sends 12 volts from the pump assy. to the toggle up/down and trailer up switches. This plug can vibrate loose and cause your problem. Pull it off and see if the pins are clean and not corroded; reconnect it. here
Disconnect the trim/tilt assy. wires from the battery and then check each of the nuts and studs on the solenoids for clean and tight fittings. Each solenoid has three wires and the buss bar connected to it. The bases of them have a black ground wire and a small blue wire to one and a small green wire to the other. [links]
Up toggle connects the RED wire to the BLUE wire. Down toggle connects the RED wire to the GREEN wire. The TRAILER UP switch also connects the RED wire to the BLUE wire. here
Also, you can try swapping the wiring as shown below in the following diagram:
Did you check the switches with an ohmmeter? The trim/tilt switch is a 2-way switch and will show continuity only when it is toggled in each direction between two of the wires. more
1. Make sure battery is FULLY charged. more
The number needed by members is going to be something on the order of
J115XXXXX, where X is another string of numbers. It will be located on the left of your transom mount looking forward from the rear. It might also be on one of the small freeze-welch plugs on the powerhead on the right side looking forward from the rear. KR
Please indicate the year and hp of motor as a minimum. Put the full model number if possible. This will allow users to look at parts and schematics for your particular motor which will help describe what the boxes, plugs, etc. look like.
I found that number.
