The pipe does not have an elbow connecting it to the boot under the console. That would be really nice, but it would also be really tedious getting all of that lined up and connected. Since it is not a continuous path running a wire to the console will be easier with a helper so one guy can look for it under that boot. A helper isn't a must though if you know the wire will not simply run up by itself and end up under the console. Push the wire through from the rear, then get under the console and look for it under the boot. A good flashlight, something like needle nose pliers to grab it, and patience will help. It also can help to remove the screws and pull that boot up to improve access.

The rigging tube is a straight PVC pipe that runs through the stringer. It's as big as it can be. The smaller boats like the 176 have a 3" pipe. The bigger boats get a 4" pipe. The logic behind that is bigger boats usually get bigger wires, plugs, and so on, and the stringer is smaller in the small boat so there's less room for the pipe.

As mentioned earlier, that yellow cord can get twisted up inside the rigging tube and it's not so much a matter of size of the pipe as it is that the rope runs over, under, around, and through the existing wires, cables, hoses, whatever is in that tube. It's always been that way since the first rigging tube was born.

I went and looked and that was yesterday. Have been busy. Now I forgot which cable came through a hole in the escutcheon behind the DF unit. more

1. Where the fixed shaft (that the yoke clamps to) and the rotating shaft (that the motor is mounted on) join, so that you can rotate the motor without the cable binding.

No more messy tape or zip ties, the Ashmore Marine Trolling Motor Cable Keeper Kit is the easiest and most effective way to secure and protect your transducer cable. Once installed, the Ashmore Marine Trolling Motor Cable Keeper Kit gives you piece-of-mind that your transducer cable will no longer have the ability to fall between your trolling motor and base, which could cause damage or cut your transducer cable in half. Each cable clip also has a unique cavity molded into it that is designed to carry a large dual cable and allow room for another single cable if needed for anglers who want to utilize multiple electronic accessories at the bow. A must-have for every bass boat, the Ashmore Marine Trolling Motor Cable Keeper Kit is the perfect way to keep your electronic cables protected and organized.

Comments: I got these to hold my Lowrance Active Target transducer cable. These things are one of these "why didn't I think of that" items. Unlike electrical tape or zip ties, you can easily remove these when adding or changing transducers, and they slide up and down as you raise or lower your trolling motor for shallower or deeper water. Very happy with these.

The purpose of the kit is to: (1) keep the external cable from getting caught up or getting hit by the propeller, (2) prevent cable damage, (3) to keep the transducer cable away from the trolling motor shaft, and (4) to line up the cable so that it doesn’t get caught on the trolling motor bracket.
