North Caicos and Middle Caicos are the only two islands in the country connected by a road causeway.
The Turks and Caicos has two domestic airlines, interCaribbean and Caicos Express, and both serve domestic and international routes.
We generally advise that all visitors rent a car due to the complete lack of public transport and high costs of taxis. Walking distances between resorts, restaurants, and attractions are often too far to be pleasant, especially in the case of many secluded vacation rental villas. Central Grace Bay on Providenciales and the historical oceanfront area of Cockburn Town are the only regions where a rental vehicle may not be needed. [links]
– Turks and Caicos Islands are in the same time zone as New York (UTC-4:00).
There are many attractions for tourists on the Turks and Caicos Islands. The most popular attraction is definitely snorkeling. Other water sports such as kayaking, kitesurfing, sailing, parasailing, and horseback riding are also very popular. [links]
Everything is expensive!! It is definitely the most expensive island I’ve been to. Although it is expected on a luxury island, drinks, food, hotels, tours, taxis, etc. are all very pricey. If you are planning a trip to TCI, make sure your budget is big enough (we paid an average of 80$-90$ USD per dinner for 2 people). That being said, there are a few ways to save money:
On top of having some of the best beaches in the world, Turks and Caicos is home to the third-largest coral system. [links]
Renting a car and driving is definitely the best way to get around in TCI. You need to have a valid driver’s license and most car rental places require a minimum age of 23 years old. here
Turks and Caicos has activities for everyone. You can go island hopping, or swim with stingrays, or visit a cotton plantation, or see the site where Christopher Columbus first landed in 1492. [links]
Resorts and rental business usually don’t want the Hobie Cats sailed out of sight for safety reasons, so this often limits sailing to within about a one-mile radius of the launch point.
Because the hull is sealed, it’s not possible to sink a Hobie Cat that’s in proper condition. In the event that the sailboat flips, it can be righted in the water with little difficulty by the passengers. more
Hobie Cats have two plastic sealed hulls with a trampoline style deck stretched between them. The usual mast height is about 20 feet, and the craft have a boomless main sail, which makes for safer sailing for novices. The average resort Hobie Cat can comfortably carry from one to four adults. more
Hobie Cats are an excellent way to introduce children to sailing, as they’re technically very easy to control and require very little strength to sail under tame conditions.
If your accommodation doesn’t offer Hobie Cats, a great way to access water sports equipment is to get a day pass at Club Med Resort. [links]
Grace Bay is an ideal sailing location and is really the only place Hobie Cats are normally used in the country, as most of the main resorts are located on this section of coastline. Long Bay on Providenciales also offers great conditions, but there are only a few privately owned Hobie Cats are in the area. [links]
Highlight of our trip! Don’t worry, you are safe with this crew!
“My wife has wanted to do the parasailing for quite awhile…I was a little apprehensive until I observed Carlos and his crew and how expertly they carried out their job. They were extremely fun and helpful….a great experience! We thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience, the thrill of being high above the water, getting a Birdseye view of the beautiful water, coral reefs, and one of the top beaches in the world, and then having the fun of looking back at the pictures after our trip! You will never regret going parasailing with Grace Bay Water-sports!” -David R (more)
Great Experience.
“Everything was AWESOME! Crew was fun and knew what they were doing. Amazing views while we were up in the air. Couldn’t have asked for more! I was a little unsure of where we were to meet but figured it out pretty quickly. I would do this again in a heartbeat!” -buckpow (more) more
Highlight of our family trip to Turks and Caicos
“Wow, this tour was the highlight of our family trip to Turks and Caicos. We got to visit remote untouched beaches where the water was crystal clear and snorkeled in TCIs beautiful reefs. We also got to indulge in special Rum Punch made with Captain Franky’s special local recipe. It was an unforgettable trip! We still talk about this trip to all family and friends. Highly recommended when at TCI!” -Emelia (More) more
Absolutely Perfect!!
“Not looking for this tour, We booked by chance. And so happy we did! This was a once in a lifetime experience for our family. Snorkeling in the middle of the ocean was so cool. The crew pulled up to a area right in middle of the ocean and we all jumped out. The water was to our knees the kids loved it! And to beat that the private beach was so unreal. No one in sight you feel as though your on Gilligans island. Def hands down the best part of our family trip. Franky and the crew felt as if they were friends rather then our tour guide. Thank you for all our unforgettable memories! This is a must do tour if your in Turks and Caicos.” -Alis M (more)
