1982 Cape Dory Typhoon Weekender, sailed until pulled for bottom paint when is was discovered that the gelcoat had blistered. I bought the boat locally and it had set for several years in brackish water, sailed but not pulled seasonally. Couldn't get the local boat yard interested in the job on a small boat. I had a trailer modified to pull the boat and I set out to strip the gelcoat under the guidance of a local expert. Gently ground the gelcoat down to glass on the bulk of the below waterline hull. Will need a couple hours of grinding, some sanding and then finish. Not a more beautiful boat on the water when underway. Classic lines. Cushions are original and in great shape. Full set of sails in clean working condition. Rigging is solid. Teak needs some sanding and your choice of sealant. Motor starts easily and runs great. Boat deserves refurbishing to its original glory but could be back in the water to enjoy the end of summer with a few days work. I have decided to move out of state and do not have a place to work on it at new house. These boats are hard to find, expensive when refurbished and prized by anyone who gets the opportunity to sail. The trailer is modified for short distance travel and for work out of water. Trailer is not registered and I do not have title. A new custom trailer can be purchased for under $2500 at Triad trailers in Raleigh. [links]
