There are presently two ferry options to take you to the Bahamas, both of which sail from Florida, US, and land at different ports within the Bahamas. You can get a ferry from Miami to the Bimini Islands, or from Fort Lauderdale to Freeport Island, both of which are north to the main island of the Bahamas, Andros Island, with each ferry running 6 times a week.
Due to the close proximity of Florida to the Bahamas, both ferries are a fast and cheap way to visit the stunning Bahamas, with the ferry to Bimini only taking two hours, and the ferry to Freeport only lasting two and a half hours, however these sailing durations may change due to weather conditions, so be sure to check before you travel.

If you want a real treat, then hire a multi-day charter. You will have two or three days to fish and a chance to go past Bimini to other excellent fishing grounds. These charters cost about $2,500 per day for a group of up to six people. You can catch Wahoo, Mahi Mahi, massive Tuna, Blue and White Marlin, and Swordfish right off Grand Bahama. These waters also hold plenty of baitfish, including Mackerel, Little Tunnies, and many more. If you’re aiming for smaller fish and if your boat can safely get to the flats, you should definitely target Bonefish and Permit. A boat ride around the wrecks will get you Snapper and Grouper. The Bahamas enjoys long spells of hot and dry weather, though summer months do tend to be wet. On average, the temperature stays above 80°F throughout the year. The sea temperature goes from 70°F in colder months (January, February, and March) and rises over 80°F during summer and early fall. It’s these warm waters that let you fish for Marlin way more than once a year.
The prime minister indicated that anyone who has not been fully vaccinated must provide a negative PCR test taken within five days prior to arrival in the Bahamas. "This measure will greatly enhance our economy and will also help reduce the number of infections. When tourists are fully vaccinated, since they will have received all the doses, they will be able to participate in events in a closed environment where the mask would not be necessary".
Before boarding, a member of the Balearia Caribbean staff takes the body temperature of all passengers who are going to make the trip. If the reading of this temperature is higher than 100º Fahrenheit or 37.7º Celsius, the passenger will be denied boarding on the ferry. more
During the crossing: The dog would need a kennel and a muzzle during the trip. Small dogs (less than 11 lbs.) During the voyage, they will be on the deck or in the place indicated by the crew. Large dogs (over 11 pounds) must travel in a kennel. The kennels are installed on the deck of the ferry, properly ventilated and located in a suitable place, protected from the rain and cold. Only "service dogs" can remain in the passenger area during the trip. While on board, outside of the kennel, all dogs must be restrained with a harness and a leash.
