These switches are easy to install and durable. Even though these ignition switches are not used widely due to lack of knowledge about them. It has 6 terminals on its back, with two of them marked with the same letter, a boat's ignition switch wiring appears to be a challenging task. But it can easily performed by following the steps given below.
Next, pull up the ignition cable through the hole in the dash. The terminal on the switch which is marked as "B" has to be located. Then find the red wire in the ignition cable with a purple stripe throughout its length. Using soldering iron, solder it to the "B" terminal along with the rosin core solder. more

First, use a hole saw tool to drill a 1-1/2 inch hole in the dash at the location where the ignition switch has to be mounted.
Alternatively: Im sure you are replacing that switch for a reason. If the old switch still works then you need to use a voltmeter to find which contacts works with which at different position. for example.. [links]

But I'm working on wiring a 5 post ignition switch into my old lund. Even though I marked the wires, the engine now cranks when the key is "on", and does nothing on "crank". Has anybody else had this happen, or know what might be up? Thanks.
Also, there's 5 hot wires in the "harness" (electrical taped bundle) If there's one for the lights, batt power, starter. what would the other two be?

Did you replace the switch?
The poles on the new one could be layed out differently.
I would start by attatching the HOT wire to what you know to be the on. Then, take the starter wire(from the on pole) and start testing poles for the right one. Then you have a 50-50 chance of the other two being right. Provided ground is in the right place.
Print the cabling diagram off in addition to use highlighters to trace the signal. When you use your finger or even stick to the circuit with your eyes, it is easy to mistrace the circuit. 1 trick that I actually 2 to printing the same wiring plan off twice. About one, I’ll track the current circulation, how it functions, and that shows me what parts of the routine I need to be able to check. Then about the other one, I’ll start colouring the things which tested alright. When I get completed, anything that’s not really highlighted are think circuits which i want to identify.
