Update ok so here is what I did got a new fuel line and primer bulb all though I just put a new one on it in march. Tried to prime no luck all I here is air. I started at the tank verified that the pickup tube wasn't clogged. Connected fuel line tried to prime bulb so I took the female connector off of the fuel line on the engine side and siphoned aka sucked manually some gas through the line. Put the female connector back on and hooked it to the engine side. Pulled fuel line off of carbs squeezed primer bulb gas, and gas shoots out of line. Soo I hook gas line to carb bowls fill up. Apparently I was getting a very minute amount of gas to carbs before, and now they are filling up. Still can't get it to start but now if I shoot premix into carb it will start and stay running, which is an improvement but still won't start on just the primer bulb but I didn't have the choke hooked up so any ideas of where to go from here? here

Not trying to beat a dead horse, but if your bulb won't get hard after 5-6 squeezes, keep working on your fuel supply. Until you get to that point, running the engine is just going to drive you crazy adjusting for something that isn't fixed. here

Adding fuel system cleaner liquid to your fuel tank will clear residue that may be blocking your fuel lines.

In 2011, Yamaha issued a recall on particular VMAX bikes released between 2008 and 2011 due to malfunctioning oil pumps.

Consider the 2019 VMAX model: it comes with a powerful 1679cc engine that delivers around 123 pound-feet of torque. more

The enrichment valve can be cleaned and inspected without carburetor disassembly. You will need to separate the carburetors individually. Three screws hold the small enrichment valve cover in place. A fairly strong spring with retainer cap is immediately underneath. To remove the diaphragm, you will need to carefully pick along the perimeter to free it from the sealing groove in the carb body (Figure 15). [links]

Refer to the flow diagram at the end of this article to determine the path of air and fuel through the carburetor. You can follow the form of the carb body casting to visualize much of the path. If you are cleaning the carbs, force air and carb cleaner in the opposite direction of flow when possible. A jet table is provide at the end for reference; they're easy to get mixed up.

The jet block has three brass jets (or nozzles), two of which (Figure 7, B and C) a covered by rubber plugs of two appropriate sizes. The jets can be removed for cleaning with a sturdy, narrow flat-blade screwdriver. The jets are soft (brass) and easily damaged. Take your time and make sure the blade stays seated in the slot, and they'll come out. more

The carburetors on your Venture are not terribly complex and are readily serviceable. There can be a lot of time involved depending upon how much you need to disassemble. The project is not exactly simple, but with some basic mechanical skill and experience, and a little guidance here, you can avoid a hefty shop charge and do it yourself. Set aside plenty of time (most of one day) and use care throughout the process. Don't rush. It takes better than an hour to remove and replace the carbs. The remainder is bench-time. It's worth the effort to be thorough. Lubricate whatever you take apart; jet plungers, o-rings, drain screws and their o-rings, etc. Replace anything that is showing wear.

The valve consists of a diaphragm with brass piston valve (obscured below) and a fairly strong spring with a spring retainer (Figure 16). [links]

Put everything back together in reverse order. Make sure there is nothing that can contaminate fuel pipes or bowls - they should be spotless. [links]

MY NEXT REAR TYRE
I expect to retire the rear pilot road before the Vmax rally in October 2006 and already have a new rear tyre waiting in the garage ,being a 180/55 X 17" Michelin pilot sport. Why a Michelin pilot sport-well according to Michelin it is a good tyre for a high performance bike like the Blackbird and the Hayabusa. If its good enough for them its good enough for Mr. Max.What I like about the pilot sport is that it has more rubber on the road.By this I mean that there are less grooves cut in the tyres and hence a bigger contact patch on the road.Michelin claim that the pilot sport offers excellent grip in the wet and in particular sport performance, handling , stability ,durability and mileage. We will see when I change to this tyre although ,based on my previous experience on Michelin tyres ,I am sure that the tyre will live up to the manufacturers claims. [links]

How about a nice 4 into 1, or 4 into 2 if you must.

When are these buttheads at Yamaha actually going to release this monster? My 87 Vmax is tired and beat up and needs a high tech replacement. I’ve already snapped the shaft due to the grip of the 250 rear tire. I’m actually considering the B-King or BMW K1200R. Come on Yamaha…….wake up!

If you release that POS as a vmax, I will sell my max and buy a POS harley – or for the same ridiculous amount of money, a better bike, a Confederate Hellcat (not a bad bike).
