After launching the boat (a whole other topic about Neah Bay Boat ramp at low tides!!), it wouldn't start while at the launch dock. I thought battery was dead maybe. Starter would click once and that is it. After several attempts I pulled engine hatch to see that it had about 6 inches of water in the bilge. Hit the manual bilge and it pumped it out in about 4 minutes. Then I hit the starter and it fired right up. We motor over to a slip and tie up kill engine. I see water coming in again (will try to upload pictures and a video). Long story short, I sat there hitting the bilge switch for about 4 hours waiting for the tide to come in so I could trailer boat. more

I'm learning as I go so any insight is immensely helpful.
When we motored over to the boat ramp, the leak was less (much less it seemed). So it seems like it takes no more water when just sitting in the drink without the engine running.
Anyone have a diagram from one of these chevy 350 5.7s? I want to see exactly where the starter is and see if I can get to it to replace it. This one is brand new, but after swamping my boat (drain plug, learned that the hard way) and then this water issue, I am thinking it is compromised.

My wife's boss was told by his marina that his starboard drive needed re-building after they had tried to launch it in the Spring. He looked at it and thought something was wrong. It did not look like the same one that was on it in the Fall before Winter lay-up and asked me to investigate.
I looked at it and It looked a LOT older than the port one. I said do you still have your bill of sale? He did. I checked the serial numbers from the bill of sale with those on the drive. - guess what not even close!
Long battle with the marina. They never admitted anything. I called them some pretty harsh names. It had been under their care in a "secure" fenced area the whole time. I think an employee switched the drives.
The best I could get for him was free labor and dealer's cost for the drive. The Admiral's boss did not want to go to court. I was thinking of a baseball bat! LOL.
The skeg of the XDP drive is easily damaged which sometimes can lead to water getting into the drive. Certain drives have been reported to have gear lash issues that cause premature failure on drives mated to 8.1 liter engines, while other drives have had leaking seals around the drive shafts. And finally, we have heard anecdotally, that having an XDP drive reduces the selling price of boats by $16,000 to $20,000.
