I slid a 1in pipe into the splined area and it looks pretty straight coming out.
Several hours went into pulling the gimbal bearing with a 3lb slide hammer, eventually custom fabbing an actual puller for it's eventual removal.
Now to where I am currently. I have an alignment tool, which I have used before. I cannot seem to get the tool into the splined shaft. In fact, the front engine mounts are bottomed out (mount, nut, nut, engine bracket, nut) which was where they were when here
Long story short, I have the outboard apart for bellows replacement and new gimbal bearing, and can't get the alignment tool into the splined area. here
Where do I go from here? Just try to put the shaft back in, since it came out with that adjustment? It looks as though the front of the engine needs to drop down more, and the only way that I could do this is by trying to take one of the two nuts out from under the motor on the mounts. Or by changing something on the back end of the motor, which doesn't seem feasible. The boat really doesn't have a tremendous amount of hours, so I can't figure out why these bolts are to one extreme (engine front is all the way down) more
TL;DR: front engine is all the way down on mounts, and I can't fit adjustment tool into splined area. Driveshaft came out at this position. What do I do?
