The CFA nurtured Heights of Hope, a nonprofit neighborhood development organization serving the Holland Heights area. Heights of Hope began in 2003 as several area churches banded together to address the area's needs, said staffer Tracey Forbes. The CFA stepped in and gave the effort more focus, she said.
Members of Communities First Association, a network of people working to improve low-income neighborhoods through coaching and mentoring, recently announced plans to partner with all denominations."We want to partner with and work with and enhance every church," said director Jay Van Groningen.

The association aims to help transform locales plagued with crime, absentee landlords and other problems, Van Groningen said. The idea is to improve a neighborhood from the inside out, using the resources that already are available, he said.

The D.J. plays the Electric Slide, and nearly forty people — a sizable chunk of the Holland Heights neighborhood — hit the dance floor to groove to the song, a crowd favorite.
