The British Virgin Islands are among the most visually stunning in the entire Caribbean chain. From Sage Mountain on Tortola to the unspoiled beauty of Anegada and the granite boulders of Virgin Gorda, what defines the BVI is its laid back natural charm and its sheltered sailing waters. more

The climate of the region is tropical but rainfall varies with elevation, many of the islands are mountainous with extinct or semi extinct volcanoes, rainforests and green valleys where sugar cane used to grow, while others are less mountainous and consequently drier and less fertile.

Traveling south, the next island group includes Saba, Statia (St. Eustatius), St.Kitts (St. Christopher), Nevis, and Montserrat. These are the younger, more volcanic and steeply mountainous islands; they lie in a northwest to southeast orientation. Each has a distinctive culture and most have attractive historic towns. Montserrat has become famous for its still active volcano. here

by Nautical Publications (NV. Charts), NV. Charts are especially designed with the requirements of the yachtsman in mind. Fine contours and easy-to-distinguish color graduations of the depth line - turquoise for coral reefs, red for the, meter line and blue for the, meter areas - characterize the NV. Charts. Presented in a handy, user-friendly size (23 1/2", 16 1/2"), thick plastic envelope protects the charts, enabling them to be easily stored. The importance of good graphical representation of the topography when sailing in the Caribbean is essential. Well-marked rivers, towns and street plans all help to give, clear overall view of the shore side facilities of the islands. Red numbers waypoints with coordinates based on WGS84 datum, enable yachtsmen to navigate using their GPS instruments. Heights and depths are given in the internationally accepted format of meters. All area charts have the same scale (1:90,000, with passage charts of 1:500,000). Large-scale approaches and land contour markings simplify the entrance into anchorages. The NV. Charts are coordinated with Chris Doyle's well-known Sailors' Guides, with the use of cross-referenced numbered harbors and anchorages. The charts cover the area from the Virgin Islands stretching to Grenada in a series of four chart groups. All NV. Charts are packaged in a vinyl cover and include the CD-ROM of the charts.
(CD-ROM is BSB or nv.digital, and includes PC Planning Software),
Check out the Maptech Chart's for alternate coverage.
