The 22’ Angler is derived from the original 22’ design that was first introduced in January 1987. The Angler, as the name implies, features a larger aft cockpit than the Cruiser to accommodate sportsmen and their gear. A practical boat, the 22’ Angler is designed and built to be seaworthy, easily maintained and affordable to operate. Although a full 22’ boat with a cabin, it is relatively light and well balanced for easy towing and invites the owner to explore waters far from home. Maneuverability at speed is balanced and predictable, even in heavy seas. The boat holds her course with little effort. The hull’s flatness toward the stern greatly reduces the rolling motions, making cruising in rough water much more pleasant.

The most successful C-Dory model, the 22’ Cruiser, was first introduced in January 1987. It has enjoyed a steady production run. Many refinements based on customer input rather than on fashion trends, have been incorporated over the years. Materials used in the construction of the boat have been constantly upgraded, ensuring that the model keeps pace with the technology available today. The interior trim is neat and utilitarian, with emphasis on easy maintenance and durability. The cabinetry is composed of fiberglass with Teak wood trim. By definition a dory is a flat bottom boat, with high flaring sides. The C-Dory is a modern refinement of this classic design type. The planing hull is nearly flat at the stern and gradually becomes a “V” at the bow. Deep reverse chines channel the flow of water, holding it under the boat, increasing lift and decreasing wake and spray. Heavy plank lines along the sides contribute to the C-Dory’s classic, salty appearance. They also stiffen the hull and serve as spray knockers, making the boat pleasantly dry running. The brow of the cabin roof reduces glare in the windows and adds to the boat’s distinctive lines.

On Saturday March 13, 2016, while wintering in Florida, we were enjoying a luncheon cruise on the St John's Riverboat sternwheeler. Suddenly, a pair of C-Dory boats zipped past us. My wife Libby thought they were adorable and looked them up on the internet on her iphone. Lo and behold, there was one near us in St Petersburg, Florida for sale. a little green and white 2005 C-Dory 16' Cruiser. Turns out these capable little craft have a sort of cult following and the 16' models, in particular, are extremely hard to find. People have been known to travel thousands of miles to buy one. We called, drove over early next morning, and as luck would have it, this one was absolutely perfect. On its own Load Rite trailer, tow weight is just 1900 lbs. We bought it on the spot.
Watch this brief one minute video of a similar C-Dory cruising along an open river. She zips right along with our 50HP Honda outboard. And she sips fuel sparingly. using barely more than one gallon of gasoline per hour cruising on a plane at around 18 mph. We hope to have some similar video footage of us cruising on CScamp soon! Some additions I made right away include a Hydro Tail Stingray by Marine Dynamics and a Garmin echoMAP 53dv chartplotter with the US LakeVu maps preloaded. [links]
Here's Libby after just launching CScamp for our maiden voyage on nearby Lake Dora in central Florida. We had the pleasure of going out with a local C-Dory afficionado, Cliff Harbin, from Mt Dora. Cliff was able to show me some of the subtleties of operating the C-Dory. The boat handles very well and the Honda 50 motor purred like a champ. We were out running for 3 hours and burned just 4 gallons of fuel. We launched at Gilbert Park and cruised across beautiful Lake Dora, took the Dora Canal to Lake Eustis and then up the picturesque cypress tree-lined Haines Creek Canal to the Haines Creek lock and then back to Gilbert Park again. It was a very pretty ride.
