The Royal Lady was purchased by Win Gurney, A Pontiac dealer in Syracuse with a home on Cherry Island. The boat was originally named Win Lee. The current owners family purchased the boat from Gurney in 1976 and re-named it Royal Lady in honor of Royal Lalonde from Hutchinson Boat Works, who took care of the boat for many years and had a deep love and appreciation for wooden boats. She has been kept in the same boathouse since relocating to Round Island in 1976. Though she has received a few upgrades including a replaced engine, and hand carved wooden scoops, this boat remains largely original and in excellent condition and one of the best known examples of the popular and attractive post-war 26ft Utilities. One of the best features of this design by Glen Furness was the hard chine that was integrated into its traditional round hull, improving the boats stability but preserving its smooth ride. Being an expensive boat to produce Hutchinson only produced a few of these hulls each year, making the 26ft Utility rare and quite desirable.
I have completely restored the boat. The upholstered dashboard and seats make it quite unique for an aluminum hull boat. here
This is a show quality Cavalier with a full cosmetic restoration in 2018 with 14 coats of varnish, 3 coats of bottom paint, New Flooring, New Upholstery, and gauges restored. This was boat was last in the water in Sept of 2019 at the International Boat Show in Alexandria Bay. She is a turn key boat. The KBL engine was rebuilt many years ago but only has 30 hours since rebuild. A tune up on the engine including points, condenser and carb clean including fuel filter was done in 2018. This boat is very fast with this engine. This is a perfect boat to for water sports and is very easy to handle. Comes on a great shorelandr trailer that has new tires and bearing buddies. Ready for the road.
She was restored in 2006 - new everything. The motor was freshened up in 2019 along with the OMC outdrive unit. Trailer was built for her in 2007. When the engine was rebuilt, the 7-fin LT-1 valve covers were misplaced. here
Good-sized sidepockets are raised to allow for toe placement and the floor is fully carpeted. Gunwales feature grabrails, flush-mounted rodholders and cross-bollards in the transom corners. Cross-bollards would be better replaced with cleats. [links]
What makes Trailcraft boats unique from other plate aluminium boats is their 'clinker-style' pressed sides. While this process increases production time, Martin believes it is worth the extra effort as the pressed sides strengthen the hull and produce a stylish, more traditional look. Running strakes are also pressed into each boat's underside prior to welding.
It's no secret that Trailcraft boats are in direct competition with respected marques such as Quintrex, Stessl and Savage, however, according to Trailcraft's Managing Director Brett Martin: "Trailcraft plate aluminium boats offer several features that make them safer and softer-riding than our competitors' boats."
The bow area features a cross-bollard aft of the anchorwell and a low-profile split bowrail.
The testboat was powered by a 75hp two-stroke Mercury outboard which provided more than enough power. Top speed was 55kmh at 5100rpm, which indicates the outboard could have done with a smaller prop. Comfortable cruise speed into a small headsea was around 40kmh and 4000rpm. more
