A limber hole is a drain hole through a frame or other structural member of a boat designed to prevent water from accumulating against one side of the frame, and allowing it to drain toward the bilge. Limber holes are created in between bulkheads so that one compartment does not fill with water. more

“Gunwale” is defined in the dictionary as the uppermost edge of a ship’s side. That word originated in the late 15th century, when a “wale” was the name for a plank on a boat. The original spelling in Old English was “gonne walles”, or literally “gun walls”, because it was the wall of a ship used to mount a gun. here

Now let’s learn the words for the front, rear, left and right sides of the boat. The front of a boat is called the bow, while the rear of a boat is called the stern. When looking towards the bow, the left-hand side of the boat is the port side. And starboard is the corresponding word for the right side of a boat.
With the spelling “gunwale” one is tempted to pronounce is like “gun-whale”, just as it looks. However, the proper original pronunciation is like “gunnel”, as rhymes with “funnel”. With gunwale meaning the uppermost side of a boat, an expression has taken root with that concept.

On a vessel where the 'driving' is done is called the wheelhouse or the bridge. The kitchen is called the galley and the place to eat is called the messdeck or simply the "mess". A Cabin, stateroom or berthing is often used to describe sleeping quarters. More often than not, the toilet/bathroom is called the head. There are not hallways, but passage ways or "p-ways". Also there are a few general terms used to describe "rooms" on board vessels. They can be called compartments and spaces. A lot of the terms depend on the size and type of vessel. more

“With the central powertrain, there is room at either side [of the hull] where shafts might have been,” he explained. “This led to the idea of a floor below the waterline, a room at the side half submerged because the fun is in seeing both above and into the water at the same time.” more

Savannah’s Nemo lounge could have gone anywhere in front of the propellers, but its location links it to the pool deck and to the swim platform, where a complex hatch in the aft stairs provides secondary access. Guests relaxing in this area are treated to unique views and can enjoy the sunset at the same time as watching fish swimming beneath the surface. here
