Here’s a site with towing information for the 2009 ranger. It’s a place to start your inquiry-max capacity varies a lot depending upon the specific truck you have. Some folks tow with 4 cylinder engines with eco boost, whatever that is -:).
You stated originally the Ranger is an extended cab model with a 2240# tow rating. In 2009 Ford called an extended cab a Super Cab. Ranger 2009 sales brochure states a tow rating of 2080#, a GCWR at 5500#, and the TV GVWR at 4760#.

I tow an 18' i/o runabout with a '92 4.0, auto, 4x2 Ranger supercab.
I don't have trailer brakes, but sometimes wish I did. Texas law doesn't require them for my 3500 lb. load. The load is well balanced on the trailer and I never feel like the boat is "driving" the truck. I don't have any trouble at loading docks or much trouble getting up to 60-65 mph, but I'm a little concerned about stopping in an emergency situation.
For your interest, I have towed a 2000 pound load over 450 miles, over mountains, in the Southwest (San Diego to Phoenix. Six percent grades are a part of that trip-up and down.
The '04' Ranger with the five speed automatic gave me plenty of choices-on up/down grades. I never felt the load was "pushing" me.
Regular Cab models get a cloth bench seat that can squeeze three aboard. The seat splits 60/40 for access to the space behind it. Also available are optional cloth sport bucket seats and leather-trimmed bucket seats. A 7-foot bed is available on XLT Regular Cab Styleside models. here
