Size the OCPD as per 430-52 & table 430-248: 17A x 2.50 = 42.5, use a 40A breaker and #8 THHN cu branch conductors 310-15, (building wire not NM or SE, these will need to comply with 334-80 & 310-15), the equipment grounding conductor is sized as per 250-122.

Regardless what other choice do you have? more

I would not replace the cord cap with a larger one on UL equipment and I would not place a larger OCPD on a branch circuit supplying a receptacle. more

I cant tell you what SPL stands for but as I understand it, these are non oil injected models. You premix the fuel and oil.

Yep, SPL stood for Special. They were offered with fewer features. In addition to lacking the oil injection, they often lacked power trim, and had less fancy cowling graphics. In later years, they were often the "old tech" models alongside a newer tech motor of the same horsepower, .ie the old crossflow 88 being offered at the same time as the newer 60-degree looper 90s. Basically, they were made to hit a price point below the premium models. more

A four pole motor with no load connected, for example, would have a synchronous speed of 1,800 RPM at 60Hz and a synchronous speed of 1,500 RPM at 50 Hz. If a motor is designed to operate at different speeds when controlled by a variable frequency drive (VFD), the input frequency range must be displayed on the nameplate.

Some motors can operate with more than one voltage and this capability will be indicated on the nameplate. Dual voltage ratings allow for the stator windings to be split in half to be used in either a series or a parallel connection.

Depending on the application, some motors may only be rated to operate for a short duration. Motors with a reduced time rating can be manufactured with lighter duty construction and will therefore be priced lower than a motor rated for continuous duty. here

If you walk into a sears or Kmart store you will see portable appliances known as Vacuum cleaners. the ones for rugs are rated in Amps.

"5SPL" horsepower means "5 special use" horsepower, the real world meaning of which is "not really 5" horsepower, you usually see these motors on air compressors sold for home or very light industrial use. They will make close to 5 horsepower intermittently for a brief time right before the compressor kicks off . A good "5" horsepower motor will make 5 horsepower for as long as you have electricity for it.

Physically the difference is 25 to 30lbs. Monetarily, the difference is about $100 to $150.
