The Atlantic Ocean takes up about 20% of the Earth’s surface and 29% of the planet’s water. Ocean surface temperature was originally measured through the input port of ships, and with sensors on buoys, but the results were usually inaccurate because of the ocean's stratification and depth variance. So, temperature measurement techniques evolved to include ocean floats and satellite tools that give more accurate results. Today, scientists use a variety of techniques to measure ocean surface temperature. The layer being measured can go to about 1,200 feet below the ocean’s surface.

The concept of a single, global ocean dates back at least to Ancient Greece, embodied by the god Oceanus, one of the Titans. The world was somewhat small to early Greeks, so a single ocean makes sense within their limited worldview. Later explorers and scientists would divide the World Ocean into several regions. more
Whale sharks are found in all tropical and warm-temperate seas around the world, preferring water temperatures of 68-77° Fahrenheit . [links]
Despite their tremendous size and intimidating appearance, whale sharks are commonly docile and approachable. Please keep your distance, giving them the respect and space they deserve.
Whale sharks may grow up to 40 feet and weigh as much as 40 tons by some estimates. 65.6 feet -->Whale sharks longer longer than about 39 feet are uncommon. They have broad, flat heads with short snouts and their backs have an interesting white, yellow, and grey checkerboard pattern. It is unknown how long whale sharks can live, however, scientists believe they can live approximately 60-100 years.
Whale sharks eat mostly small organisms like plankton, schooling fish, and squid, which they strain from the water as they swim with their meter-long mouths and specialized teeth.
