Buying a large, luxury boat will always be expensive, yachts come with an expensive price tag for a reason. You can purchase a small yacht outright and save money on initial costs but you need to factor in the maintenance charges too. Or, you could opt for a yacht share network and purchase a more expensive, larger boat for a fraction of the cost. Maintenance charges will be greatly reduced too as you share the cost of maintenance with seven other boat owners.

Nothing Will Be the Same: There is truly no other living situation that comes even close to achieving the same level of solitude, freedom, and sense of self sufficiency that you experience living on a yacht. Once you’ve lived on a yacht, you have truly done something amazing that not many people have ever had the privilege of experiencing.
Like almost everything about yacht life, living on board is amazing, but you’ll probably find a reason to complain a little, too. It’s one of the best first world problems to have. However, the truth is that living on a boat is not for everyone.

Errands: When living on your boat, leaving the comfort of your water home to run errands is a challenge all on its own. Groceries: Carrying groceries from the car to the house is not too bad, even for those of us who like to grab every bag in the trunk and painfully crab walk to the front door. Trying to do the same from the parking lot, down the steps on to the dock, across the swaying waters, and up onto the deck of your yacht is a great challenge. Laundry: Carrying laundry from the yacht to the car and vice versa has the same set of challenges as the groceries we mentioned before. Unless you have a washing machine on board, laundry can get difficult at times. No Sleep on Stormy Nights: If you ask almost anyone if they like sleeping when it’s raining, chances are they’ll say yes. There’s just something about sitting cozy in a sturdy house while the heavens stir around you. Not in a boat, no sir. When the sea is upset, you’ll know, and you won’t get much sleep because of it. Large yachts tend to rock less, and with the right kind of mooring you can avoid some sleepless nights, but when it’s storming out, chances are you’ll have a tough time sleeping.
One of the first things you will need to do is to insure the boat. You will need to use an insurance company that specialises in marine insurance, and there are plenty of them around that you can choose from. It is important to do your research in order to find the right type of insurance for your boat. One of the many reputable marine insurance companies out there is BoatUS. Most every insurance company will cover boats but make sure you get a few different quotes so you can be sure you are getting the best price for the coverage you need.
There are yachts which are on the more luxurious end of residential boats. Larger yachts are often associated with high-flying billionaires, but there are many more affordable options to suit every budget. Yachts are great for entertaining and enjoying the sea air and can be used in the ocean, lakes, or rivers.
If you want to buy a houseboat that is brand new, there are things to think about.
You should find out about finance options if you do not wish to, or are not able to pay for the boat in its entirety. What are the rates of interest? How long are you able to finance the boat for? Does it come with any sort of payment protection insurance? What will the monthly payments look like? Find out as much information as possible before signing any agreement.
