I got a '76 Johnson 85hp for $300 with controls. No power trim/tilt. Took it to a mechanic, had 150 compression on all 4 cylinders and just needed the carbs re-done, said it was a great motor for the year.
So for $300 I thought I got a steal, but after another $375 to have carbs re-built, I guess it's still not bad under $700.
That questions comes up a lot. It's kinda like saying " I don't feel like looking outside so tell me if it's raining at your house". Unless you live next door it has no relevance. You will get answers from $400 to $1500. It's best to look at CL or local marine stores and see what they are going for. An when you post a for sale pic make sure the motor is mounted on a stand and is clean . Don't know how many pics I see that the motor is laying in the yard with a "runs great" caption. Also make sure that all the wiring is good an it can be started. If a seller tell me it runs great but needs X and Y to start then it does not run great and I offer parts prices. more

selling it with the controls is a bonus; as they get older they are harder to match up. And when there are gremlins, they can start in the controls as well.
But I can't see the rig going for more than $500. [links]
I have seen those motors sell for $1000 or around that neighborhood. It depends a lot on condition. Having the power trim is a big bonus in my opinion.

I tried to get just the needle/seat repair kit so I could put my carbs back together, (found nothing wrong with them)but store told me I could only get the rebuild kit, $13 ea. X 3. What does the kit your talking about give you? here
