Volvo Penta DPS-A Sterndrive. We supply all parts for the DPS-A sterndrive. The service and spares parts list includes sterndrive prop removal tools, anodes, drive and exhaust bellows, hoses, oils, shaft grease and shaft seals. Sterndrives use different types of gear oils, dependant on the sterndrive type. See the individual sterndrive sections or our downloads section for more information. here
Technical information: 2.45 Litres. Oil Spec: Synthetic Gear Oil API GL-5 SAE 75w/90 oil.
It is important to use genuine anodes on a Volvo DPS-A Sterndrive. Volvo Penta anodes and made to exact specifications to protect the Sterndrive from corrosion. We have seen evidence of counterfeit anodes and this can lead to a total loss of the Sterndrive from corrosion.
Volvo Penta DPS-A Sterndrives should be serviced at the end of every season to ensure the oil is not emulsified, indicating that the shaft seals require changing. Water intake hoses should also be checked for condition. See our downloads section from the left-hand menu to download a list of oils for each Sterndrive type. more

Make sure you use synthetic oil in the outdrive. I had some what the same problem. Mine was self- inflected I tried to be cheap and used a half oil and half synthetic mixture called Maxtron. After I put pure synthetic back in my problem went away. more
Rodbolt is right, but do not overlook the possibility that the throttle cable is adjusted too tight and that puts a bind in the control box when you shift.<br /><br />If you store the outdrive in the up position, water can remain in the shift cable area and corrosion builds up making shifting harder.<br /><br />When you disconnected the shift cable, before hooking it back up, did you center the free-play on the cable and center the free-play on the shift linkage (in neutral), then adjust the brass connector to fit?
