Reviewing an earlier thread about excessive smoke from outboards, I"ve
added checking the fuel line from the tank to my to-do list. What else
should I add?

Now-
Engine will start and idle fairly well, if not perfect. Sometimes still
floods and dies.
Main trouble- no high end power. Motor revs up a little, but seems to either
starve or flood. Some missing, as if electrics not good (or air in fuel?)
I tried squeezing syphon bulb while at WOT, it's firm and doesn't affect RPM's.

Also make sure that the engine is warming up enough. If you
can hold your hand on top of the cylinder head for more than
2 seconds, you'll need to replace the thermostat.

Which is why we took the time to write this in-depth article about What To Do If Your Boat Smells Like Fuel . In order to help give an in-depth perspective of how to safely deal with the issue if you ever have to! [links]

But most smaller outboards have fittings or quick connects on them that are set for a 5/16″ hose. It’s basically the standard hose for the smaller engines.

A lot of times when there is an air leak in the fuel lines, the engine will lose prime after sitting for a little while. Then you have to prime up the system again before running! here

Hopefully, this gets you in the right direction and now you understand what size fuel line you should put on your boat! [links]

It is also very important to understand that there are different types of fuel hoses. And different specifications for different applications put in place for safety purposes. more

Note that if the fuel/oil mix is old it may smoke more; use a quality TCW-3 rated mfr's oil or something like Penzoil Synthetic Blend (Wal-Mart has good prices on gallon jugs of the stuff). A full-synthetic oil will typically smoke less than Dino oils. If you can get non-alcolhol fuels, use them. [links]

However two weeks later and when I start it (with the air muffs) to flush the engine, there is still a bit of what i'd consider excessive smoke, and the engine seems to idle a bit rough. I was kinda attributing it to the fact that this is a two stroke engine, so its expected, but i'm not sure.

This'll clean any deposits out of your motor's innards and may make it smoke a bit less. here

If you still think it's smoking excessively after getting it out on the water, you may have an overly rich idle mixture adjustment (you'll need to tweak the idle needles with motor warm and in gear). Or carb issues. But first try the additives and see how that goes. [links]

If the boat is not getting on to the plane then you are pushing through the water, not running on the top. You would be using more fuel if you are not on the plane.
As a rough guide you will get approx 500RPM more for each 1" pitch prop dropped. If you are getting 5000 RPM Max now and the 50EFI is rated to 5500-6000RPM I think that the 10 1/2 should lift your max revs about 750 RPM and put you into the center of the rev range.
Prop selection sometimes can be a trial and error thing.
Yep the 12" stainless would be the best when you reach your destination. more

One more thing: How can I verify that this prop will fit on my engine? [links]
