As Silvertip says, you would be much better off with a full size truck or SUV with at least a small V8.

A 5000# tow rating is only one part of the equation. The GCWR (gross combined weight rating) is the second part. There should be a tag on the door or somewhere on the vehicle that lists that number. That number represents the maximum "combined weight" of the truck, load in the bed, and trailer. If the truck weighs 4000#, and has a tow rating of 5000 and you are at that limit, you need a GCWR of 9000# or higher and I doubt that vehicle has that rating. The minute you put something in the bed, add people to the truck, etc. you have exceeded its capacity. You need a 1500 series truck or an SUV with a small v8 for that load. And stay away from short wheel base vehicles like 2-door SUVs (Explorers and S10 blazers). Very few tow vehicles work well at there rated maximums. Manufacturers like to stretch that number to the very limit just to make an advertising point. That does not mean the vehicle works well as a tow vehicle. [links]

Last year, we answered a question from a viewer who wanted one all-wheel drive that could tow his ATV and had a decent all-wheel drive system:

As before, we don’t recommend pushing the limits of your vehicle’s towing capacity. Even if you can tow 5,000 pounds, it’s wise to leave a little room to avoid placing excessive strain on the powertrain or brakes. If you’re towing over 3,000 pounds, we also recommend fitting an OEM or reputable aftermarket brake controller. [links]

Midsize family SUVs live in a fiercely competitive segment, second only to compact crossovers. We task them with every part of our modern lives. From carrying children and cargo to satisfying our performance needs, and even towing the occasional boat.

I do like the Pathy but the towing stability, economy, and capabilities are starting to lack. Around town and on flat freeways it’s perfectly at home humming along but when presented with longer climbs and technical off-roading, it begins to show its limitations quite quickly. I am lucky to get 200 miles to a tank and my mode of operation dictates that I’d like to go much further. I am looking to see what you would recommend as a replacement vehicle. here

I love off-road and Ike Gauntlet tests but I am having a dilemma.

Except, there’s another consideration that some families consider: towing. We Americans love, love, love a good road trip, but some folks also have a decent-sized trailer they want to bring along for their adventure. For others, maybe their reliable, faithful towing rig just isn’t cutting it anymore and they need an upgrade.

When it comes to buying a brand new SUV for your driveway, there are plenty of options on the market that will haul your kids, pets and all your cargo in space and comfort. Whether you want something more compact or a massive, three-row beast that dominates the landscape when you’re on the road, virtually every automaker has an option. Really, the main limits are how much space you actually need, and how much you’re willing to pay for it.

SUVs are listed here in order of make and model (some 2022s will appear here, if and when we get specs). These are the trims, engines and lowest price you have to spec to get the a SUV tow rating above 5,000 pounds for that model. Bear in mind, these capacities will almost certainly require a towing package (with at least a Class III hitch), if the manufacturer offers it as a separate option.

Enclosed trailers come in a variety of sizes, and many can be towed with a 5,000-pound carrying capacity.

It has Aluminum fenders, an interior dome light, and plywood flooring and walls. If you only have a small apartment or a few rooms to move into, this is a great option for you.

Understanding how much weight your vehicle can tow and what that truly looks like will make everything easier and will protect your vehicle.
