Honda manufactures a variety of outdoor lawn equipment including smaller lawnmowers that are suitable for use by homeowners with small- to medium-sized lawns. The Honda HRR216PKA, for example, features a four-cycle engine that uses a spark plug to combust fuel to power the mower. The gap on a spark plug is the distance between the small electrode in the bottom of the plug and the ground electrode.

Once the plug is out of the engine, take few minutes to look it over for signs of damage to the ceramic or heavy scorching on the electrodes. If there are signs of damage, purchase a replacement plug. You will need to get a NGK-BPR5ES replacement plug from a small engine repair shop or hardware store. The gap, or distance between the electrodes, should be between 0.028 and 0.031 inches. Check the gap with a gap gauge and adjust the ground electrode until the gap falls between the two numbers.

Removing the spark plug from the Honda mower engine is the first step in gaining access to the plug. The mower should be parked on a flat and level work surface like a driveway or garage floor. To disconnect the spark plug wire from the tip of the spark plug, grasp the rubber boot on the end of the spark plug wire and pull out and away from the tip of the spark plug. A spark plug wrench or socket wrench and spark plug socket is used to loosen and remove the spark plug from the mower engine. [links]
