It was during a safari that tragedy struck the Queen family. Robert and Moira Queen were mauled by a lion before Oliver's eyes as he tried to unjam his rifle. When the lion turned its hungry eyes to Thea, Oliver's much younger sister, Oliver grabbed his father's bow and killed the lion with a shot through its eye.
In Star City, Oliver spent his youth in private schools. Even as a child, Oliver enjoyed participating in extracurricular activities like archery, lacrosse, rowing, and fencing. Though perhaps destined to be an Olympic archer, being trained around the clock by his coach Malcolm Merlyn and alongside Tommy Merlyn (who became Ollie's best friend), Oliver was a naturally gifted all-around athlete and excelled at any physical activity. His love of sports also fostered a love for outdoors and he became interested in an altogether different sort of sport and game; hunting. Oliver would often join his father on exotic hunting trips around the world.
Back home, Oliver began preparing to inherit the reins of his father's company, under the guidance of his and Thea's godfather and their father's business partner, Walter Steele. Though Oliver was given control of the family fortune, there were certain stipulations placed on his control over Queen Consolidated and it was Walter's responsibility to help Oliver overcome these obstacles. Yet, much Walter's regret, Oliver quickly earn a reputation as a playboy and thrill-seeker, often throwing lavish parties aboard his yacht, “The Queen’s Gambit”. No such exception was spared for Oliver's biggest party to date: his twenty-first birthday party.
Master Archer: Oliver Queen was an extremely skilled archer, on par with Clint Barton. He claimed to be able to shoot 29 arrows per minute, after he corrected Black Canary for saying 26. He had a wide-variety of trick arrows, ranging from bola arrows to time-bomb arrows, to electric arrows, to even kryptonite arrows. He had used these arrows sparingly, preferring the time-tested simple arrow. Green Arrow has shown the ability to shoot an arrow down the barrel of a gun, pierce a drop of water as it left a tap, and shoot almost any part of the human body; although he usually only aimed to wound and not to kill when he shot. He once shot two arrows down two different gun barrels while upside down, in mid-flip while somersaulting off a building. more
Skilled Pilot: He used to own and fly his own airplane called the Arrowplane. He had some skill in flying different types of planes. [links]
Oliver resolved to get his yacht back, so he and the natives staged a coup and Oliver was able to reclaim his boat and go back home. For the next year, Oliver improved his archery skills further. He joined a cult of dark celtic archers, and was taught by the expert archer Vordigan. Oliver eventually rejected the harsh and unethical teachings of the cult and left Vordigan, going back to Star City. There he vowed to use his skills for good, taking the mantle of the hero Green Arrow.
The costume Green Arrow wears was composed of kevlar and a little percentage of titanium; it's bullet-proof and resistant to various types of attack (explosions, impacts, falls, etc. ). It was also flame-retarding and insulating. The gloves and the boots were reinforced to rebound the impact of punches and kicks. [links]

Oliver's entire life was flipped upside down during an ill-fated sailing trip on his father's yacht, the Queen's Gambit. The ship was sabotaged in the Pacific ocean, forcing Oliver, Robert and a third crewman to escape in a life raft. Only having enough food and water for one person, Robert killed the third man and told Oliver that he had failed their city and that Oliver needed to survive and right his wrongs. Robert then committed suicide, shooting himself in the head in front of his son. Oliver's raft ended up on the island of Lian Yu, and while scavenging the raft for supplies, he uncovered a list of corrupt one-percenters who were driving Starling City to ruin. more

Robert eventually married Moira Dearden and on May 16, 1985, the two had a son, Oliver. [2] However, Robert was not a faithful husband, having cheated on Moira multiple times.
