Unfortunately, it happened at Copse corner, one of the world's fastest. We have seen many key overtakes here over the decades, always needing bravery, skill and some risk. But just as at some of the scariest of corners like Eau Rouge at Spa and the old 130R at Suzuka, it's not out of bounds for an overtake as Hamilton ably demonstrated 50 laps later when he seized the lead from Leclerc at the very same spot. It was that kind of race. more

The four levels of in-race penalty available to the Stewards are five seconds added to the next pit stop (or elapsed race time if no further stops), the 10 seconds they chose, a 'drive through' which would have cost 19 seconds on the day, or a 10-second 'stop and go' which would cost around 32 seconds at Silverstone by the time you have pulled in and out of your team pit area. here

For example the Commission discovered that F1 teams mostly employ students from certain high-ranking universities. In addition, due to geographical factors, opportunities for work experience at rural-based teams are often out of reach for students from black communities.

Brendan McConville, professor of history at Boston University, adds that Hamilton had always been sensitive about his humble roots so it was important to him to prove himself during the war. “He had been with Washington as a key aide throughout most of the war, but wanted glory on the battlefield,” he says. Hamilton “saw victory on the battlefield as a way to win reputation.” [links]

Appointed by George Washington in 1781 to command a light infantry battalion in Marquis de Lafayette’s Division, Hamilton helped lead the attack at the Battle of Yorktown in Yorktown, Virginia, which would become the war’s last major land battle. The siege lasted from September 28 to October 19, 1781, with the French attacking the British fort at Redoubt 9 and Hamilton attacking Redoubt 10 simultaneously. The double-pronged advance led British General Charles Cornwallis to surrender. [links]

Hamilton was born in either 1755 or 1757 on the Caribbean island of Nevis. His father, the Scottish trader James Hamilton, and mother, Rachel Faucette Lavien, weren’t married. Rachel was still married to another man at the time of Hamilton’s birth, but had left her husband after he spent much of her family fortune and had her imprisoned for adultery.

Initially, according to Newton, command of the assault on Redoubt 10 was given to someone else. Hamilton objected, claiming it was his turn and that he had seniority. “When Washington overturned the previous decision and gave Hamilton the command, Hamilton rushed to his friend and second in command, Nicholas Fish, and exclaimed ‘We have it! We have it!’ ” [links]
