Thank you for this excellent capture of this currently popular practice. Only recently, I have come to know about the popularity of this ‘oil-pulling’ when one of my nurses read about it. I am a Radiation Oncologist (retired from Academics, doing Locums now in Houston area), had some training in Ayurveda from AVP Coimbatore. For many years I have used gentle oil swishing in mouth for no more than 2 minutes once or twice daily, for my patients under radiation therapy for head and neck cancer. Baking soda-salt solution mouth wash is also used several times a day. Those with underlying poor hygiene with superadded radiation induced dryness and mucositis have been helped. I ask them to use sesame oil (cold-pressed if they can get it) or virgin olive oil that they may have in their kitchen. This often works as well as or better than commercial specialty mouth washes. And more affordable ! Dec, 2020, anonymous: Hi there. After reading your article on oil pulling, I wanted to share my experiences in short.
I had been suffering from acne and eczema for a long time, having tried every approach to cure. Upon starting oil pulling, it cleared within 3 days (inflammation), then healing completely took about 2 weeks. I have recommended this to two other friends with acute acne and it has cured them both. I also noticed other side effects such as, brighter skin on face, reduced appearance of spider veins in my legs, nd reduced ‘skin tags’ on body. In my experience, I would say that oil pulling has a very positive effect on skin health in general.

There is a small study on the effects of oil pulling for 45 days, that concluded that practicing oil pulling has the ability to reduce plaque and gingivitis.[vii] Another small study concluded that oil pulling 10 minutes daily with sesame seed oil may reduce Streptococcus mutans (which is linked to the production of plaque) within two weeks.[viii] more

Dr. Svoboda is the first westerner ever to receive a Bachelor’s of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery (BAMS). He’s been at this for about 40 years.

According to the classical Ayurvedic text, Charaka Samhita, gandusa improves the strength and health of the face, jaw, voice, throat, lips, teeth, gums and general oral tissues.[v] (These are the benefits given in the quote that most sites provide as proof that oil pulling is an ancient Ayurvedic practice, but it is actually a quote that relates to the practice of gandusa.)

On an empty stomach, take about a Tablespoon, or about half a mouthful, of oil into your mouth. Push, pull and draw the oil through the teeth, from side to side and front to back, for 8-20 minutes. If you feel the need to spit during this time, spit a little out and keep “pulling.” At the end, the oil will be milky white, thin and frothy. Spit this out and rinse your mouth with water. Some say to brush your teeth after oil pulling, as they say the oil pulls out toxins, bacteria, pus, and mucous, which is why, they say, the oil gets whitish after swishing it around for 20 minutes. It is said that this should be practiced one to three times daily, but that the best time is in the morning, before breakfast, on an empty stomach. Coconut or sesame oil seem to be the most commonly used oils, but sesame, olive, almond, sunflower and other oils also receive honorable mention. There seem to be no particular associated dietary considerations or prescriptions.

It seemed to me that the chances were very slim indeed that this reportedly powerful, popular, ancient Ayurvedic practice would have not made it into his education either.

Some companies in the petroleum industry have activities that would fall into upstream, midstream and downstream segments. ExxonMobil is one example of such a firm. Others have activities that fall primarily into only one segment. The KinderMorgan pipeline company is an example of a specialized petroleum firm, in this case belonging to the midstream segment. Many regions have local gas station brands that would specialize in the downstream segment of the industry. One of the best-known regional examples is the WaWa chain of gas stations and convenience stores in eastern Pennsylvania, but large grocery stores and retailers like Costco and Wal-Mart are increasingly involved in downstream sales of petroleum products.

Once crude oil is extracted from the ground, it must be transported and refined into petroleum products that have any value. Those products must then be transported to end-use consumers or retailers (like gasoline stations or the company that delivers heating oil to your house, if you have an oil furnace). The overall well-to-consumer supply chain for petroleum products is often described as being segmented into three components (shown graphically in Figure 2.1).

Petroleum refineries are large-scale industrial complexes that produce saleable petroleum products from crude oil (and sometimes other feedstocks like biomass). The details of refinery operations differ from location to location, but virtually all refineries share two basic processes for separating crude oil into the various product components. Actual refinery operations are very complicated, but the basic functions of the refinery can be broken down into three categories of chemical processes:

5) DOING A THIRD PULL. A third pull should be done just like the first two were. Add more NaOH solution. Swirl. Let it sit. Geez lets this one sit overnight (at least) and sometimes a couple of days. You can shake this one if you want to, since its going to sit long enough for the emulsion to break down. You are extracting mostly the rogue, stubborn meth molecules that have not let go sooner, and you should expect this to take some time. You extracted the better part of your yield doing the first two extractions. What yield you get from a third pull is "extra" and it is the stuff that did not want to come easy Giving it more time makes sense. You may choose to save this and combine it with the next batch, or do it separately. Depends on how much of a tweaker you are. more

Which solvent to use? Geez suggests using an agressive solvent like xylene or tolulene; he has had a couple of bad experiences with odorless mineral spirits not separating from the honey and for that reason does not use mineral spirits for this purpose. Use the solvent you will extract the meth with at least once, and if it is used first, use it for two washes. Geez extracts with VM&P naptha most of the time, and always does at least one wash with hot naptha. Washing the reaction fluid with the solvent used to extract will remove anything in the fluid that is soluble in that solvent, which means it will not be in the fluid to be extracted with the meth. This logically translates to cleaner meth. If you plan to "ker plunk" -- or extract with hot naptha, Coleman's fuel, or equivalent-- wash with hot naptha, Coleman's fuel, or equivalent at least one time. Even if you will extract with naptha, this poster recommends washing the reaction fluid with tolulene or xylene prior to washing with naptha; there is no reason to use mineral spirits or naptha to wash if you will extract with tolulene or xylene, except for economic reasons.

Evaporating This should be done on low heat, in a visionware bowl, or flat pyrex dish, on a hotplate or with heat lamps, with an exhaust fan exhausting fumes to the outdoors, and with a fan blowing over the top of the dish. Too much heat will result in loss of yield as some of the meth vaporizes with the heat. Patience pays. If you have to have some now, evaporate that first pull by itself, then do the rest. Do it slowly. It will form a skin, or crust, as it evaporates, and will skin over before it fully dries. Try to let it dry without building up on the sides of the dish. Before it is completely dry, flood the dish with dried acetone. This technique is called "acetone flashing" and will not only rid the dish of its remaining water content, it will precipitate methamphetamine hcl crystals in the acetone.

You should have a separatory funnel (or ghetto equivalent) with the washed reaction fluid in it. Add the non-polar solvent chosen to extract the freebase methamphetamine unless you choose TCE. TCE should be added after the reaction fluid is based. The solids that form with basing have a habit of finding themselves in the TCE layer if it is present when the base is added. This does not seem to be a problem when the TCE is added after the base. Add the NaOH solution a little at a time. Pour it through the non-polar solvent. Swirl the solution after addition to distribute the NaOH. DO NOT SHAKE. Shaking just causes emulsions. You have no need to shake the solutions. Swirling is sufficient for all our purposes here. Watch the NaOH solution as it enters the reaction fluid. It will immediately turn milky white, then fade back into transparency. Add a little more NaOH. The same thing will happen. Continue this process, adding a little NaOH and swirling. Take some time and give it TLC. There is no reason to shock it with a massive dose-- you can if you want, sure. If you are new to A/B extractions, you will want to take repeated pH readings of the reaction fluid, which is the bottom layer unless you are extracting with TCE or DCM. The non-polar solvent has no pH. It tells you nothing to measure it, per se. You are concerned with the pH of the reaction fluid. Measure the pH of the reaction fluid with a meter, a pH test strip, cabbage juice, or--gasp---your sense of sight and smell. Yes, experience helps. To gain that knowledge from experience you must pay attention to sights and smells of the basing process.

Im hoping to make some this year as I missed out last year.
How many of those mason jars full, should i make?
How long do you leave the pulp in the Jar before getting juice out?
If i start with 50/50 alcohol/water,is that high enough alcohol content?
Once Ive waited the right amount of time,Im putting the pulp through my slow juicer, which is very powerfull to get the juice out. My veggies come out very dry from that,so Im sure I will get 95% of the goof stuff. 🙂 About sowing, have you thought of pre-germinating the seeds? Soak the seeds for 24 hours in water, depending on the time of year. Wait for the little tail to just appear and put them on the ground. I cover my wheat grass with 4-5mm of soil,so you could do this with oats and the critters wont see the seeds on the ground. Thanks for the answers! here

3. Use a hard rake or your hands to spread the oats as evenly as possible.

Good question. For small batches I recommend using a potato ricer, which you can buy for $10 at any kitchen store. Some people just use cheesecloth or a tea strainer, and then press the marc between 2 plates with weight on top of the upper plate (like making cheese), but this takes forever and isn’t as effective as using some kind of press. For large batches I use a small cider press. here

What concentration of alcohol did you use? It’s much more likely to be mold or something microbial if you used a lower alcohol concentration than a high one. That being said, if you’re concerned about the safety of the tincture, don’t take it! Make another, maybe with dried or partially dried chickweed. Chickweed, like most plants high in mucilage, tends to make a better tincture when it’s been partially dried first, just because you don’t end up with this alien baby of soluble fiber in the jar. Does that help?

The oats will be “milky” when the young unripe seeds have emerged but before they’re ripe (in other words, before they’re viable seeds). You know it’s time when the white goo (latex) comes out of the seed when you squeeze it. I will try to post a picture of this next month when it happens, but in the meantime check out Juliet Blankespoor’s beautiful pictures or just search for it.
