In fact, the extent of his involvement is that he claims he will happily pay for the DNA test and that it’s gotten as far as him reaching out to her doctor’s office, even saying he wanted to be present for the birth. But none of those things have materialized, as Lilly was born on May 26th, and as the screen savagely stated, “Jean-Luc and Dani have yet to speak to each other.” Bro. Is the only good thing to come out of this mess going to be this sick burn? Because, somehow, even his headphones were irritating. [links]

The Below Deck franchise has given us a lot of firsts. Across Below Deck, Below Deck Mediterranean, and Below Deck Sailing Yacht, Bravo has aired everything from nudity to near-death experiences to in-depth analysis of maritime law. And now, after a total of 15 seasons have aired, we seem to have the very first Below Deck baby on our hands, a child that deserves a much better welcoming than she has received so far.

She went on to detail how she found out she was pregnant as soon as she got back to Australia after the charter season in Croatia and that initially JL was “Obviously a bit shocked and everything but he seemed supportive.” But then it changed, and by December of last year he was “not interested anymore.” That became apparent on New Year’s Day when she got a message from him that said, “Don’t go around telling people I’m the dad of this child,” and saying he wanted a DNA test to prove it. Dani agreed as long as he organized and paid for it, which has yet to happen, and said he has asked about the baby two-three times total this year. She went on to say, “She’s gonna be amazing,” about her daughter, and that she would “Do my best every day to give her everything she needs.”

During Part 2 of the Below Deck Sailing Yacht Reunion, host Andy Cohen questioned stew Dani Soares about the daughter she welcomed in May and if the father is deckhand Jean-Luc Cerza-Lanaux. It was an easy jump to make as we watched the two slink into the guest cabin for a private night of fun throughout this season which has aired for the majority of the spring, just as she revealed the pregnancy. But it was filmed at the end of last summer, so…anyone with basic math skills knew it added up.

For her part, Dani was also sure to say she wished he was at the reunion so everyone could hear his side, though he later got his own sit-down with Andy. “Five days after the reunion was recorded, Jean-Luc found time in his work schedule to speak with Andy,” the screen read, as it was previously announced he was on coward, sorry, on charter. And let’s not forget, angel on Earth Colin found a way to drive 90 minutes to Wifi, so it feels like JL (also not the most motivated cast member we’ve ever seen on the show) could’ve figured out a way to face his fellow castmates.

And before we heard from Dani or JL, sure, there was the chance that maybe she met a different tall and hunky and more mature man and also had some fun. However, it not only seemed unlikely, it turns out, it never happened. When finally given the floor to talk, Dani said, “Well, let’s put it this way: this baby was made during the season while we had cameras 24/7 with us and I only slept with one guy.” And what has that guy’s reaction been since learning he’s the father? “He hasn’t supported me at all in any way,” Dani revealed. “He thinks it’s not his child and he doesn’t want to have anything to do with it,” she said of JL’s reaction.

Each of the Below Deck franchises has definitely hit that last mark every time. The first five seasons of Below Deck took place in the Caribbean before heading to Tahiti in Season 6 and Thailand in Season 7. Every season of Below Deck Med has featured a different locale: Greece in Season 1, Croatia in Season 2, Italy in Season 3, the South of France in Season 4, and Mallorca, Spain in Season 5. Below Deck Sailing Yacht cruised around Corfu, Greece in Season 1. [links]

The New York Times recently went behind the scenes of the current Season 5 of Below Deck Mediterranean and revealed what producers look for in a "suitable" locale. First of all, the location needs to have easy access to a major airport to fly charter guests in and out. It also needs to have hotel accommodations for the production crew available for the six-week duration of shooting the season. For Below Deck Season 7 in Thailand, every crew member ended up in a mini-villa, the article noted.

The drama isn't the only thing that never fails to drop our jaws on Below Deck. All of the franchises also stun us with the gorgeous locales the yacht cruises around each season. So, how do the producers decide where in the world to set sail?

As much as being a woman made it harder for Below Deck's Captain Sandy Yawn to make her mark (via Decider), she doesn't necessarily see it as a setback. She told Bravo, "Being a female captain in this industry is challenging and inspiring because I thrive on problem solving. Being a woman in the male dominated yachting world is an advantage due to my ability to multi task while managing the emotions of the crew. I choose not to come from a place of power and control and it really, really works."

Captain Sandy ensures her team knows who's the boss right off the bat, even though she considers herself a "warm" and "friendly" person by nature. "I always want people to feel I'm approachable. Having said that, I also need them to remember that I am in charge, and if you don't set that precedent in the beginning, then they get confused because I play a lot," she said. Considering how beloved she is among staff both past and present, clearly whatever Captain Sandy is doing is working.

So-called "stud of the sea" Captain Lee Rosbach is a Below Deck mainstay but if there was anyone who was going to not just follow in his footsteps but blow him out of the water (pun intended), it would be Captain Sandy. Even so, she's not terribly impressed with the comparisons. As she told Decider, "When people compare me to Captain Lee on Twitter, that makes me realize they have no idea who I am, or who he is. It's just what they watch. We have two very different career paths. I was a busy charter captain in the Mediterranean. That wasn't Captain Lee."

Their connection was instantaneous, of course, but Below Deck's Captain Sandy was quick to note that the honeymoon period has continued on regardless. "You know when you meet that person, you know? And then you say, 'Okay, they're on their best behavior.' But she's actually normal, and I wake up happy every day of my life," she explained. [links]

"How I handle it is, I don't care who you sleep with or if you all sleep together, but the minute you come up on deck you better be professional. I don't want to see that behavior on deck and do your job. And they do. Most of the time they do their jobs," she told People. Although Captain Sandy has had to intervene a few times, she makes it clear that she's "not their mother" but "their leader." And, as their leader, the Below Deck Med star understands that "they have to have outlets," adding, "You can't demand what we demand from these crews and not let them have these outlets."

Anybody who's had even a fleeting glimpse of Below Deck's Captain Sandy Yawn in action know she's a total boss babe. But her strength goes beyond leading a difficult crew on the high seas. As she revealed in an interview with Women's Health, a near-death experience ended up saving her life. Yawn recounted how, in February 2015, when she was 49, she crashed her motorcycle into a car, which left her with fractured bones in most of her limbs.
