Red Hook on the Road trainees are unemployed New Yorkers who face significant barriers launching their careers. We screen many applicants each year for approximately 25 training slots per month. For this reason, be sure to read our Apply page to make sure you’re a good fit, as well as to determine that you do not have a driving history that might disqualify you from consideration.
Graduates, after successfully passing the road test, are placed into jobs driving school buses, Coach buses, Access-A-Ride vehicles, and trucks. Businesses in Red Hook on the Road’s extensive employer network frequently offer benefits and good starting wages. [links]
Red Hook on the Road helps unemployed New Yorkers who already have their Class D license start new careers in commercial driving in NYC. Following four weeks of classroom and behind-the-wheel training, students take the NYS Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) road test. Once grads are licensed, they’re ready to be placed in a job with our network of employers throughout the city.
Seven award-winning training programs for jobs with long-term career potential.
Red Hook on the Road is BWI’s longest-running and largest training program. The program offers classroom-based and behind-the-wheel training leading to a NYS Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL). We then help hundreds of graduates each year access jobs as drivers of school buses, trucks, paratransit vehicles and other commercial vehicles that move people and products throughout the city.
Brooklyn Networks is a free 6-week, full-time Low Voltage Cable Installation Training and Job Placement Assistance. Students learn how to install the lines that run behind walls and ceilings that are hooked up to computers, telephones, broadcast cable and more.

After careful consideration of our options, we will be taking 2019 off. Instead, our efforts will be focused on raising support and developing plans for the continuation of the Red Hook Criterium Championship Series in the years to come. We appreciate every athlete, sponsor, volunteer, photographer, videographer, staff member, and fan who helped us build the Crit into what it is today and look forward to the next time we can bring everyone back together at the RHC.
