Find out how much your trailer weighs. If it's less than 2,000 pounds, it doesn't require a title for registration in Florida. If it's more than 2,000 pounds, you'll need to apply for a new title at the time you register it.

Most truckstops can provide you with a "Certified Weight".

Call the DMV and ask them if you could get a paper tag issued for that purpose, and ask what else it required to properly register it. here

So if this is your first time to weigh your RV, you’ve probably searched the internet far and wide for weigh stations near you, just like we did. We’ve also tried to find some weigh stations that specialize in motorhomes but to no avail. They do exist, however, but they are rare and can’t be found easily. So instead of continuing our pursuit for an RV weigh station, we focused ourselves on regular truck weighing. Why?

So why are they the best option? Simply because they will give you the most accurate weighing of your RVs. They will measure the weight by wheel position. That means that you will have a clear picture of how much pressure is applied to each wheel. You will get a comprehensive report that will help you to know exactly how to redistribute the weight and how your current tires will handle it. more

Trucks usually have licenses with certain restrictions when it comes to the weight of the load that they are allowed to carry. That’s why truck scales are so numerous across the country. If a truck driver has a load that goes over the allowed limit, they’ll simply get a ticket.

If you built or purchased a home-made utility trailer in Florida, you must obtain a tag or license plate for the trailer by registering it with your local county tax collector office. The purpose of registering your home built utility trailer is to prove you own it. To get a tag for your utility trailer, you must submit the proper documentation and any applicable fees to your local office.

Bring your utility trailer to a Florida weigh station near you and obtain a weight slip, which is required to prove the empty weight of the trailer. It's important to find out how much your utility trailers weighs because registration fees will vary depending on its weight. In addition, the FLHSMV needs to know how much your trailer weighs in order to determine whether or not you are required to title it. [links]

Submit the completed Bill of Sale and weight slip to your local tax collector office to register your utility trailer. At the office, expect to pay registration fees which may range from $46.15 to $141.30, at time of publication and depending on the weight of your trailer, taxes and county fees. Once all the paperwork is processed and fees are paid, you will receive your new tags for your trailer at the office.
