Contrary to the belief that the First Meeting of the Brethren Court convened in the days before the great Hellenic society of Greece was founded [4] , the First Court actually met at a later date [5] , possibly during the early 17th century before the Golden Age of Piracy began. The First Court consisted of the Nine Pirate Lords who bound the sea goddess Calypso in her human form, on the instruction of Davy Jones, who revealed them secrets from the Journal of the Ancient Seas. They sealed Calypso's fate with Nine Pieces of Eight, so that the rule of the seas would belong to men. The Brethren would convene a further three times before Calypso's eventual release. more
Based primarily on Shipwreck Island, where lay Shipwreck Cove and the town of Shipwreck, the original members of the Pirate Brethren convened a great conclave, in which they plotted with Davy Jones to tear the rule of the seas away from the goddess Calypso. With his help, the Brethren tricked the goddess and imprisoned her into the body of a mortal woman. Many years later, Calypso was freed by the Fourth Court to help battle against the fearsome tide of Lord Cutler Beckett's Armada.

In keeping with their heritage, the Brethren Court were governed by the Code, which favored legislative decision-making, hierarchical command authority, individual rights, and equitable division of revenues. Morgan and Bartholomew were perhaps the most famous members of the Brethren and the ones usually noted with producing the Code. The hallowed Pirata Codex would be guarded by the Keeper of the Code.
Disney's Pirates of the Caribbean franchise as of right now is one of the top 20 highest-grossing film franchises of all time. In total there are five films so far, with at least one more planned, and despite the financial successes, it's a franchise that has been torn apart by reviewers. Besides the original film, 2003's Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl, they haven't received the greatest critical reviews nor have they been loved by fans. However, if the original trilogy is isolated from the fourth and fifth films, which are indefensibly bad, it's actually kind of an amazing series.
When the second film, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest, came out in 2007 it broke box office records. Not only was it the highest-grossing film of that year, but it was the fastest film to gross $1 billion in the worldwide box office. It also held the record as the highest-grossing Disney film until Toy Story 3 was released in 2010. The third film in the original trilogy, Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End, was released the following year and was also a big financial success but didn't do nearly as well as its predecessors. Despite all of this success, these two films weren't received very well critically. It's true that there are flaws, but in general, this seems so harsh when one looks at how visually stunning these films are, how well the characters are fleshed out, and how beautiful the overarching story is. more
Though the later installments might be lackluster, the original 'Pirates' trilogy is a series to be respected.
