The terrible ammonia smell is gone.
Clairol’s new ammonia-trapping technology helps encapsulate the strong scent so it never reaches your nose. And furthermore, the brand worked with a fragrance company to create a “fresh, floral scent” that it says is a first for at-home color.

With the goal to bring the salon into your home, the brand is introducing what it calls a “groundbreaking innovation” that took more than two decades to develop. “Now more than ever, consumers are expecting more from their at-home hair color,” says Anna Vorrias, vice president of global and U.S. marketing for Clairol. “True innovation in this category has been long overdue, and our scientists have been working on this new formulation for more than 20 years in order to address the biggest concerns women tend to voice about at-home color: damage, color results, smell and mess.” more

The formula now conditions as it colors.
“The first key innovation is the EDDS damage-blocking technology, which helps block copper-induced damage that occurs while coloring your hair (microparticles of free radicals, like copper, scratch the surface of the hair cuticle during a chemical reaction such as coloring),” says Vorrias. “It not only helps block damage, but also helps color last longer.” here

You no longer have to worry about product dripping down your face.
The formula has also been tweaked to make it a cream rather than a liquid, which eliminates the messy dripping problem and creates a more precise application process.

Superdrug do a great colour shampoo that builds up. I use it once a week to keep the greys at bay. Works a treat and worth a try at £1.99. more

Wella Colour Fresh lasts for up to 8 washes (so no peroxide, it doesnt penetrate the hair shaft)
It's not so easy to find as the one you've been using though, as it isn't sold in Superdrug etc. Also quite a bit more expensive I believe
I use it sometimes to change the tone of my hair (which is naturally light blonde) It does wash out fast though, as my hair isn't bleached (about 2 washes as opposed to probably 8 on chemically lightened hair)
You can buy it online, but I get mine (much cheaper) in a shop that sells lots of hairdresser supplies.
Sally's sell it I think, and they have shops.
I wouldn't use anything that said 28 washes on my hair (some people seem to think that if the box says "semi permanent" it will wash out completely, which of course it won't, especially if used repeatedly)

People are understandably apprehensive when a company changes the formula on a trusted and established product, and surely when it says, ‘New’ and ‘Improved’ you are inclined to believe it. That’s what Nice n Easy have done with their permanent hair dye, and people are not happy. It was a trusted brand, and it really was easy to use and the results were good, better than nice, however, that is now something of the past.

The reviews of the new Nice n Easy formula are not good, in fact most are consistent with complaints on social media and review sites, yet Clairol have failed to address the concerns. I am realistic enough to know that they are unlikely to revert back to the tried and tested and favored formula, as they truly believe the new formula is better. Well, millions of users will disagree and are in search of an alternative having snapped up stock of what they can of the old formula. more

Some may say dying the hair is bad for you, but it can be a confidence booster and isn’t necessarily always for vanity reasons. Yes, some like to change the color of their hair when a relationship has ended, or to brighten it up when they feel their natural color makes their skin look sallow. In my case I have been dying my hair since I was 12 years old because I along with my sibling, I inherited a recessive gene from our mother who was born with grey hair. Both of us struggled with embarrassment as teenagers with strands of grey hair and our parents let us dye our hair if we so wished, so I’ve been dying my hair on and off for a couple of decades.
