It’s no secret that Below Deck is a complicated show to film and what some may call a “tight ship.” There are crew members — including the ones who aren’t even featured on the show — and guests, but the show’s production team and camera operators are also on board. Kate has stated via Twitter that it’s “one of the most difficult shows out there for cast members.”

If you take this show at face value, it is an entertaining show with frequent drama and shocking moments. The crew is picked by the casting to be entertaining and unique, which most of the crew are. The guests are entertaining if not being complete a**holes most of the time.

Jean-Luc Cerza-Lanaux from Below Deck Sailing Yacht antagonized his crewmates. Why did his fellow cast members get so upset with him?

The entire crew of Below Deck Sailing Yacht has totally turned against deckhand Jean-Luc Cerza-Lanaux. The group does not feel that JL stepped up to the plate when Dani Soares told him that he was the father of her newborn daughter. During the recent reunion with the entire cast, JL was noticeably missing since he was on charter. Dani was allowed to tell her side of the story, which included some pretty mean comments that JL’s mother made to her. more
During the reunion, the second stew also shared that she told her 25-year-old boy toy he was the father back in December, alleging that he denied the child was his. He reportedly asked for a paternity test. Andy Cohen and Bravo tracked the deckhand down to get his side of the story, and he revealed that he still hasn't paid for a paternity test. Viewers of the hit show are a bit confused since he did claim that he wanted to be a part of his daughter’s life if it was confirmed that he was the father. The American has seemingly made no effort to find out if he's the baby's dad.
All of the Parsifal III crew members are displeased with JL. At the reunion, Gary King revealed that he had lost what little respect he had left for him. JL posted on Instagram, where he shared his version of events. None of the crew members took him seriously. Instead, they called him out in a very public fashion. Check out the post below:

Below Deck creator and executive producer Mark Cronin admitted that deckhand Andrew Sturby from Below Deck Season 2 completely changed how producers vet crew members. Sturby was an eager worker but lied about his experience. Captain Lee Rosbach reluctantly fired Sturby when he dragged the crew down. Cronin told Showbiz Cheat Sheet that Sturby’s firing was a watershed moment for production because it demonstrated why hiring capable crew members was paramount to the show.
“In the earlier days we were a little more blind,” he said. “We had hired people who had no real reason of being there at all. Sturby is a famous example of that. Because of Sturby, we now check all references. Everybody’s gotta give us three references of boats they’ve worked on. We check those pretty carefully. In terms of being a yachtie, that is much more checked over than it used to be.”

While most Below Deck crew members have no issues on the show, some behaviors shocked fans and other crew members. “That’s not an easy game,” he said about determining if someone is fully prepared to handle the stress of reality television. “Predictive psychology is not an easy thing.” here

“But between the background checks, the interviews,” he continued. “And the written answers to, I’ve heard it’s like 300 questions. I think we’ve done pretty well at keeping a mentally healthy cast. And that’s our job. That’s true of all reality shows. Everybody gets vetted pretty carefully these days.” [links]
