Similarly to water ski handles, wakeboard handles are made from numerous materials. Unlike water ski handles wakeboard handles are much wider 13-15 inches to allow passing of the handle behind your back whilst performing aerial tricks. [links]

Water skiing ropes tend to stretch a little more than wakeboarding ropes as this stretch acts as a shock absorber, when the skier crosses the wake in between turns. Therefore these ropes are generally made from polypropylene but some riders still prefer no stretch Poly E ropes which are also available. The higher the weave number the less stretch it typically gives due to being stronger.

Unlike wakeboarding handles water skiing requires a smaller handle normally between 11-13 inches due to not performing aerial spins. To aid beginners with deep water starts companies introduced the deep V handle which gives the ability for the ski to be held upright whilst being pulled out of the water; something that many beginners struggle with.

The cheapest of the three Polyethylene is readily available and is seen as a forgiving rope perfect for beginners due to having a 2-3% stretch under normal load giving the effect of a shock absorber perfect for any beginner rider. here

Wake surfing if you’re unsure is surfing the wake of a boat, for this many people use fat sacs or the boats ballast system to fine tune the wake size. Due to requiring a slightly larger boat this is the least popular sport in comparison to water ski or wakeboarding but the popularity is steadily rising with the development of boat designs. The ropes used for powered water sports will vary from different construction methods to materials used. If you’re new to the sport you might have thought to yourself, ” why not just use some cheap blue building rope”. Well this guide to water ski, wakeboard and surf ropes will explain!

As strong as a wire, no-stretch Dyneema rope also outperforms steel and other synthetic rope materials in terms of both tension-tension fatigue and bending-bending fatigue tests. Dyneema stands up to salt water and has strong UV and abrasion resistance.

Consider the diameter of the handle as well. Depending on hand size, consider a smaller or bigger diameter that can be gripped by all that use the handle.

The length of your wakeboard rope can vary from 55 to 75+ feet depending upon your experience level, boat wake and personal preference. A good wakeboarding rope length for a beginner to start with is around 65 feet. more

The other key wake shaping factors to consider when shaping your boat wake include: ballast bag configuration, boat speed, wake shape, wake size, wake shaping device settings (i.e. the wedge, wake plate, NCRS, etc), altitude, boat hull shape and size, and even water depth.

The other main factor to consider for rope length is your skill level and the exact trick your working on. There are times that you would want a longer rope, a shorter rope, or something in between. As an example, for the frontside 360 trick progression, let’s assume that your wake shape and size is dialed in perfectly no matter what your rope length. This will allow you to focus solely on the ideal rope length for each step of learning the trick.

For this movement, you should stay put in the same spot between the wakes. more

Now that you’ve gotten your 360 wake to wake a few times at a short rope length and slow speed, bump up the speed a little and lengthen out your rope a bit. This will give you a longer approach arc, more natural momentum into the wake, more time to prepare, more time in the air, and less line tension. here

Like many people have stated, the pylons you can buy state they should not be used with tubes. I don't think this is really a safety issue regarding the rider, but because if the tube "submarines" it will place an extreme amount of stress on the pylon and it might fail. If a skier falls (s)he the typically lets go of the rope and so there is no problem.

I am getting the same problem when I am towing a tube. The hooks on my transom are too low and the rope in always getting caught in the wake about 10ft from the tuber. It actually has held underwater enough to turn the tube backwards when they come back into the wake. Then when the slack is picked up, it is pretty violent. I am looking into supports that go from the side of the boat and meet above the motor. I will make sure that they are rated for tubing though. [links]

LEARN FROM MY EXPERIENCE! We just ripped out our base plate through the carpet and completely bent the pylon and braces this weekend pulling a big 3 person tube. 2 adults were on it and their weight went forward and it "submarined" and the force wrecked the pylon system. We'd been pulling a smaller 2 person tube behind it for a year just fine. I called Swivel-Eze, the manufacturer of the pylon today, and they said this is exactly why they put the warning on the pylons not to pull tubes behind them. We have a 19 foot fish and ski with a 200 HP outboard and the base plate is on the back platform. The base is also where we screw our back pedestal seat into for fishing. We are now going to pull tubes from behind the eyes in the back with a harness and will just have to deal with the water spray. We think key factor was the submarining and keeping the weight in the back but how can you completely control that?? To replace the system is at least $300 in parts if we can repair it ourselves. Quote from boat dealer was $400.

Do not know about a tube from a pylon, but have heard not to have anyone behind the pylon (back seats) while it's in use. here

The traditional way of towing a tube or skiing from an outboard powered boat was to hook a ski bridle to the transom eyes and then to a tow rope. I remember hearing either here or elsewhere that towing a tube from a pylon is not recommended. I hope I can get a definitive answer by the weekend. Does anyone know for sure.
