Security light on the dash comes on and vehicle will not start. This continued to happen during the past year and seems to be increasing in frequency. Seems as though there are many many gm owners that are having the same problem and in talking to gm they know about the problem but state it is the owners expense to fix the problem which ranges from $500. 00-$750. 00. With the multitude of complaints I feel gm should be issuing recall. I have been stranded numerous times late at night alone and safety is an issue. You never know where or when your car won't start!.

Try giving the starter rope a pull. If you notice that it is either too difficult or easy to pull, you could be dealing with a compression issue. Should compression be the potential issue, hook a compression gauge up to the cylinder of the trimmer. The compression gauge is where the spark plug fits in. more

From here, turn the choke off and then assess the situation. If the engine continues running, the gas cap is likely the issue. If it stops, you will have to continue to troubleshoot the issue to find another cause. here

Though it isn’t a regular issue with Troy-Bilt trimmers, the issue behind a faulty start could be due to the recoil starter assembly. This assembly is what engages the crankshaft and helps the engine turn over. [links]

On gas-powered Troy-Bilt trimmers, there is always a concern that the carburetor can get clogged. For gas trimmers, carburetors are one of the most common causes for a starting failure. Most of the time, the clogging of the carburetor is caused due to old fuel. more

Please explain your steps replacing the clutch pack. What brand did you use? Did you use a service manual? Anything go together funky?

Certain there isn't water in the bottom of the tank?

So if you said you replaced the clutch cover and it didn’t start, I’d start having you look at the pickup coil in the clutch cover. On the RR it’s easy to put in wrong (can’t remember if it’s upside down, backward or flipped) and the F engine looks to be the same design:

But if you pulled the cover off, and didn’t replace it, my guess is that’s not it.

Now let me ask about the bike and why you replaced the clutch. How many miles on it? Was it slipping? Had a bad feel? Do you wheelie, stunt, race or otherwise abuse the bike to cause a fried clutch in a 3 year old bike? I’m not bashing on you for any of that, I’m trying to long distance troubleshoot with no visuals so I need to know my playing field. [links]
