Mermaids resemble regular Sims on land, however, once they enter a body of water, either the ocean, pools, or bathtubs, they will grow a tail. The color of a Mermaid's tail and other features can be customized under "Change Sim". [links]

Like normal Sims, mermaids who possess a conch shell are able to summon another mermaid they have met. Mermaids with the Mean Spirited or Evil trait are able to summon sharks to attack other divers. Mermaids are safe in their aquatic environment and will not be attacked by sharks, however, they can be attacked by the cave monster. If mermaids are on a boat, they will not be attacked by the Kraken. Mermaids swim much faster than normal Sims and prefer swimming over using boats. Fishing is also great for those trying to clean up the Island, your Sim will get points for releasing illegal fish they catch, seaweed, logs and invasive species of fish such as goldfish. It's a win-win situation.

I don't know much about any other areas, Fara pretty much sticks to Mua Pel'am and visits the bar now and then hoping for a special event/festival to pop up next door while she's there. I agree it would be cool if our Sims could fish off a pier we've built on their lot. I don't know why they can't really since they can fish anywhere from a canoe.

The Sims have been around since the start of the millennium back in 2000. They even had their own reality TV show – so any revelations surrounding The Sims 5 or hype for a nonexistent Sims 5 trailer are not completely unexpected.

Anyway, even if they disappear from the edge of a lot or the neighborhood in their car, that's no worse than what we have now, where they disappear on foot, and as others have said above, would at least give you more options. Maybe your San Myshuno sims do walk to work or to the subway, or your suburban kids to their neighborhood school.* But maybe your wealthy sim takes a fancy car out to eat, or your fresh out of university sim drives an old clunker to work. I even miss the taxis, though it might be funny to update that with the sims version of an Uber/Lyft driver. Shoot, maybe they could even add gigs for that. [links]

I remember a leaker said they were coming. Plus I think they're coming anyway. There's no reason not to. Tons of people want them and ts2 (a closed world) had them and it worked out just fine.
