Re: Carb cleaner, SEA FOAM?? or.
You will not find anyone that says SeaFoam is anything but good. It's actually a mixture of diesel fuel, naptha and alcohol (Heet.) It's pretty expensive stuff to purchase, but it does work. It's universally available at all national auto parts stores. [links]
Here is a typical fuel system the way it should be. here
Unfortunately, the 90/10 gasolines in current use do chemically break down, and they do attack rubber parts in the fuel system. [links]
Gas additives of any kind are not going to clean out your carb.
I drained off the bottom of the carb earlier this year and all looked clean, but point taken.
Engine was rebuilt, including carb and governor, about 40 years ago by my grandfather and dad.
Have to turn gas on/off each time you use it. Valve is at the sediment bowl, so you look at it each time you run it.
One may also ask, what causes varnish in carburetor? Ethanol acts as a solvent in older engines and can dissolve old gum and varnish deposits from the gas tank and fuel lines. These deposits can then clog the very small orifices in the carburetor. When gasoline oxidizes, you don't get orange flakes of rust; you get gum and varnish in the gasoline that causes clogs.
Does seafoam really clean injectors?
Pour a half gallon of muriatic acid into the tank. Move the tank around a few minutes. Let the gas tank sit overnight to clean varnish out. Otherwise you'll have water mixed in with the gas.

8. Start your bike up. It's going to sound terrible and run rough. Slowly rev it up and down, and holding it in different places between idle and WOT. It should be decently loud and make a good amount of smoke. Keep doing this until the smoke somewhat clears out. After this point, I usually ride my bike around for a while, maybe 15 minutes, just to make sure all the Seafoam is really cleared out of the system.
7. Wait about five minutes for the fumes and liquid to settle in.
