You want to achieve maximum efficiency (speed) with maximum smoothness of ride. If you trim too low you end up plowing through the water and in some cases even taking water over the bow. (Which is OK for washing the carpet but not a whole lot of good for anything else). If you trim too high you end up either porpoising as the bow is pushed up and then drops back down or you lose speed as the prop comes out of the water (RPMs will go way up). [links]

I purchased my 20 foot pontoon in early July and love it. I try to get out every weekend. My question is, how do I know when the boat is trimmed properly. My pontoon has a Tachometer, Trim/Tilt gage, and just installed a speed sensor on my HumminBird Matrix. My prop is a 14 inch diameter, 13 pitch aluminum (I plan to get a Stainless Prop once my engine is completely broken in) One more thing, I have a 75hp 4 stroke Honda, and am breaking in.

Finding proper trim is more of an art than a science. It will be different for each boat and even for each speed on that boat. [links]

Trim is not a set it and forget it sort of thing. It may need adjusting frequently depending on conditions. [links]

When the motor is trimmed up the prop ends up being pointed down and pushes the stern of the boat down. This causes the bow to rise. So when the motor is trimmed up the nose goes up. here

The same thing that can cause your boat to pull to one side can also cause it to actually lean to the side as well. [links]

The video below will show you how to adjust the trim tab to stop the prop from pulling the boat to the side when centering the trim tab doesn’t work for you. here

Also be sure that the load of the boat is not uneven and too heavy on one side. Although not an ideal solution, you can try to make the boat heavier on the opposite side of the lean to offset it, if all other options fail.

By loosening the nut you will be able to rotate the trim tab and move it into a center positional before tightening the bolt. here

Making the necessary adjustment to the trim tab to offset the pull on a pontoon boat is quick and easy.

Pontoon boats are built for luxury. This is what makes them so popular. But, luxury does not just mean high-end interior design and on-water creature comforts based around fun activities and relaxation. Luxury in a boat in our modern times also means speed and ease of handling. Therefore a pontoon boat is designed to be easy to drive. So why is it common for many pontoon boat owners to complain about their vessel pulling to the right?

Turning 3 22' tubes takes quite a bit of energy so you may just need to bump the throttle when you are making a sharp turn at low speeds to maintain speed, it is kind of the nature of the beast.

As for varying the motor height, are you talking about trimming it up? I don't believe there are mounting options??

Adjusting the trim tab to stop the boat from veering of course and pulling to the right is a very easy task to complete. Below I have included a video that shows you how to do this but it is really a very simple task.

This bolt nut can be easily loosened, to realign the trim tab, via a monkey wrench or similar tool. more
