Your throttle body has two injectors, one is used to enrich the fuel mixture when cold and at high rpm's under load. The other is used for idle and low to mid loading of the mhttp://forums.iboats.com/forum/engine-repair-and-maintenance/mercruiser-i-o-inboard-engines-outdrives/10116883-5-7-mercruiser-efi-idle-after-warmup-quits-engineotor. When the motor warms up the Temp sensor tells the ECM and one injector is shut off. So the primary injector might be clogging up or fuel passages feeding the injector.
6) Read codes by observing LED flashs. If the self diagnostic system is working it will flash code 12 ? one flash, pause, two flashes, long pause ? it will repeat three times. If other codes are present they will flash in order of lowest to highest. Continue to read codes until the code 12 sequence is repeated. here

AllDodge: When I start the boat when it is cold, it fires up perfectly without giving it any throttle (so at idle position). It's only when the engine has warmed up, and then I give it some throttle and then come back to idle, then the engine quits. It has no issue keeping the revs up when I give it some throttle.
This home made code tool works every bit as well as the one I paid $50.00 for. It will work on most 1993 to 2000 marine EFI systems with the ten pin Data Link Connector. This includes Mercruiser, Volvo, Crusader, PCM, Indmar, and a few others. more
How many hours does a Mercruiser 4.3 last?
Also question is, how many hours will a 5.0 Mercruiser last?
If you do, you should get more than 4-5 years unless you're boating in the saltiest of waters. I have a 5.0 with 775 hours still runs good. As said, you need to keep up with maintenance. Salt or fresh, closed cooling vs raw water cooling make a big difference. here
The average life for raw water cooled engines is 1,000-1,500 hours or less depending on how often they are used and how well they have been maintained. Sitting unused is hard on them, it's better if they are run and flushed often. more
The Mercruiser 5.7 liter marine engine is offered in three different configurations. The standard 5.7 has a propshaft rating of 250 horsepower. The 5.7 EFI or electronic fuel-injected model produces 260 horsepower. The 350 Magnum MPI or Multi Port Fuel Injection engine is rated at 300 propshaft horsepower.
The Mercruiser 5.7 marine system is a General Motors cast iron marine engine coupled with a Mercury stern drive for propulsion. Compatible drives for the Mercruiser 5.7 are the Alpha One, Bravo One, Bravo Two and the Bravo Three dual propeller drive units.
The Mercruiser 5.7 has the Mercury Marine Thunderbolt high energy ignition system and high flow cylinder heads for increased horsepower and efficiency. It also incorporates a new water drain system to simplify winterization. The engine has a turn key starting system. [links]
The Mercruiser 5.7 weighs 888 pounds dry. The engine is 13 inches in length, 22 inches high and 30 inches wide. It has 350 cubic inches of displacement and a bore and stroke of 4.00 x 3.48. Displacement is the combined measurement of the volume inside the cylinders that is displaced by the pistons. The compression ratio is 9.4:1.
Remove the boat drain plug with an open-end wrench. It is located at the bottom-rear of the boat.
Remove the drain plugs on the bottom of the engine block using an open-end wrench. Refer to your owner's manual for drain plug location, as it varies depending on the year of manufacture. Allow the water to drain from the block completely. Reinstall the drain plugs and tighten them using a wrench.
Spray fogging oil in and around the carburetor until the engine dies out. This will keep the carburetor clean during the winter. [links]
