Does anyone know what year Yamaha stopped making 2 stroke outboards? What their reason was?
Does Yamaha not make 2 stroke outboards anymore? I can't find the HPDI 2 strokes Yamaha used to make on their website. Searching Google I can't find anything but used and older Yamaha 2 strokes. But also searching Google I can't find any mention of Yamaha ceasing production of 2 stroke engines.
I sure as heck hope not. Bass boaters would revolt. E-tecs and Opti's meet CARB 3-star emissions requirements, so they should be good for at least a while. I think with Yamaha it was a business decision. Two-strokes can be made to meet emissions standards to legally sell.
However, its doubtful outboards, 2 stroke or 4 stroke, could be made to meet CARB 4-star without a catalytic converter if that were ever imposed on outboards. Let's hope it never is.
