Honda is well known for it’s reliability. In fact, the only automaker that comes close to what Honda has to offer is Toyota.
“Honda was one of the first manufacturers of outboard motors to offer a line of 4-stroke models in America, and the company is still leading the way today. Their history of innovation and dedication to quality that helps Honda Outboards set the standard for customer satisfaction in the boating industry.”more
Honda isn’t a newcomer to the boating world. In fact, Honda has been producing 4-stroke outboard motors since 1964 according to Honda Marine. In 1967, Honda began selling in the United States. Since then, Honda has expanded its inventory so that now it offers engines for catamaran, pontoon, and bay boats.
That’s a lot of awards for one company to reel in, but Honda doesn’t just slap together its outboard engines. According to Fish Alaska Magazine,
Another point to take into consideration is the warranty. While it’s no secret that Honda’s car warranties are nothing to brag about, the outboard engines are some of the best in the Marine industry. In fact, it’s the only outboard manufacturer that offers a five-year warranty. more
Boats are prone to repairs, no matter how much maintenance you do. So given the fact that you know the outboard motor will need repairs at some point, why go with an engine that has an inadequate warranty? more

Honda’s new BF250 is the new flagship of the company’s proven and popular four-stroke lineup.
The Honda BF250 engine incorporates the Boosted Low Speed Torque (BLAST) System which dramatically improves holeshot acceleration by advancing ignition spark timing to within one degree of the knock limit during “hammer down” acceleration. The Engine Control Module (ECM) then steps in to increase injector timing, creating a more potent air/fuel mixture. The resulting boost in available torque at low rpm contributes to a strong holeshot (off the line acceleration) to get the boat up on plane quickly. The ignition spark timing is appropriately adjusted under slower throttle advancement, ensuring a leaner air/fuel mix and improved fuel efficiency. more
Like all Honda four-stroke outboards, the new BF250 offers a non-declining five-year warranty for recreational use.
Winterizing a Yamaha four-stroke four-cycle outboard motor isn't nearly as much trouble as keeping a New Year's' resolution and, if done properly, it ensures that your motor will be ready for the next boating season with a minimum of fuss, muss and bother. A winterization session is much like a visit to a spa for outboards: The motor will have enjoyed a fresh-water flush and find itself full of oil, both in the crankcase and in the gear case. It will have had a full fuel stabilization treatment and a fogging, and even its plugs will have had some TLC.
Allow the engine to run for about 15 minutes, to increase its temperature to the operating level. Spray fogging oil into the carburetor and, when the engine is producing heavy, bluish-black smoke, shut the motor off, turn the water off, and disconnect the hose more
Spray a moisture-excluding spray lubricant over the exterior of the engine, replace the engine cover, and tilt the motor upward. Place a drain pan beneath the gear case, unscrew the vent plug on the starboard side of the lower unit with a screwdriver, just above the gear case, and unscrew the drain plug from the bottom of the gear case.
