I purchases a used boat last June with a Suzuki DF115 ( 2003) with less then 500 hrs and been having some major issues. I have had two mechanics look at it and still not fixed.
Once again I took it to the Suzuki mechanic, the plug was stuck again but not as bad, he replaced the #4 plug again and it is running great but starting to get a little hesitation when taking off ( same symptom as before) and I am going on my 2nd month. [links]
Last time I brought it in and put it up on the rack I went to check the #4 plug and it was extremely hot and I could not get the plug out, I could not even move it a bit. [links]
START outboard and RUN at IDLE speed for five minutes to ensure that the entire fuel system is filled with the storage mixture.
Lubricate all grease fittings and linkages. [links]
Proceed with Internal Engine Treatment. more
If the outboard is removed from boat, examine all loosened and removed hardware. Replace damaged or missing parts with guenuine Evinrude/Johnson parts or equivalent. here
Its very little different to running it in the ocean or river!! The only things to be aware of are:
So in both cases, keep a hose running in the barrel to keep it topped up and circulating cool water. [links]
1. prolonged running that allows the water in the barrel to get too warm will eventually lead to overheating. more
2. If the telltale is shooting water onto the ground rather than back into the barrel, the water level will eventually drop too low for the pump to pick it up, and that is the only possible way that I can think of that you could damage a impeller. here

Before checking idle speed, engine should be allowed to warm up.
Check and/or adjust idle speed after engine speed has stabilized.
Before checking idle speed, check throttle link mechanism and throttle valve for smooth operation. more
1. Start engine and allow to warm up. here
