Thanks for the extra info about the 0 ring. I've had this same trouble - twice, though mine doesn't sputter as some have said - it just doesn't work and only clicks. my 'bleed screw' is in the same place as mommicked said above, and both times it has gotten my trim up and running perfectly again by bleeding the air. i was already going to try putting fluid in and now i have the o ring idea as well. Thanks!

Disconnect the fuel lines and switch the fuel off if any fuel spills or leaks when you tilt the engine. [links]

Steer the boat. Slow down and make small incremental adjustments to the trim if steering the boat becomes difficult or the boat feels unstable. The adjustments should be small. Press the trim switch so that the bow moves up or down. The switch's up position raises the bow and the down position lowers it. The engine will move positions until the switch is released or the engine reaches its maximum position. You can do this at any speed.

Yamaha boat motors need to be adjusted for trim. Trim adjusts the angle of the propeller shaft to the transom and water. It reduces steering torque and adjusts the boat's attitude to different seas, load conditions and speeds. Engine and boat efficiency are improved by proper trim. Tilt raises the outboard so that propeller and engine damage doesn't occur when beaching, mooring or launching the boat. Problems with a Yamaha boat motor's tilt and trim can be rectified by following some steps.

Keep adjusting the Yamaha's trim. Make test runs with different loads at different speeds. Monitor the tachometer because engine speed will increase -- with no change to throttle position -- as the boat trims. Incorrect trim, where the bow is too high, can be identified by hopping caused by propeller ventilating. Difficulty accelerating can be caused by the bow being too low because the boat is plowing the water. more

Increase the speed again. Do this gradually and watch for control issues, such as steering or instability problems. more

Support the tilted motor with the tilt support knob if the outboard falls back suddenly. Pull the knob into the bracket. here

Looking good and being good are too different things. All mine looked good but my choke and ign. quit working on me. I took the switch out and sanded everything down and then I had good connections. If you hva e 12 volt meter this will help find your problem.

- battery post to - starter relay lead, key off = 0.000
- battery post to - starter relay lead, key on = 0.001 here

The starter, starter relay, and trim solenoids get their ground directly from the block correct? I cleaned the terminal that is holding on the bracket that holds the solenoids and starter relay and it looks like it provides the ground for solenoids directly and then the starter relay gets it from one of the solenoids. I did not take the bracket of completely thinking that as long as the bolt was clean and against clean ring connectors it was fine. Was that a wrong assumption? here

Didn't seam like it was a voltage drop issue but tested some of the cables anyway. Was not expecting all 0.00 so i hope i was doing it correctly. here

Here are the voltage numbers i got this morning.
